TLDR : Answer Summary
Australians do not receive a 60-day visa on arrival in Thailand; instead, they are granted a 30-day visa exemption. If longer stays are desired, options include applying for a 60-day tourist visa beforehand or extending the 30-day exemption by an additional 30 days at Thai immigration. Additionally, an exit ticket is typically required to enter Thailand, as airlines may deny boarding without it.

The smart thing to do is getting a 60 day tourist visa, when you know your stay will be 30 to 60 days.

It is cheaper than an extension.

You don’t need to use holiday time to find, go to and wait at a Immigration office.

30 + 30 days = 2 tickets out of Thailand

60 days = 1 ticket out of Thailand.

A 30 day extension is possibel, if wanting to stay in longer, so up to 90 days without having to leave Thailand.

@Henrik ****
why is it 2 tickets out I have just returned from thailand y 24th visit I departed Sydney Australia with a return ticket which was 60 days from arrival date and completed 30day extension within 2 hours at thia immigration all he needs is a current tm30 completed passport and application form completed with 1 passport size photo and 1900baht simple I've done it that way for 10 years now because i found it's easier to bring your flight forward than to push it out normally no fee for changing flights but thailand is not for everyone Chokh di

Some airlines refuse customers at check-in, without a onward ticket corresponding to the dates of the visa / visa excempt.

I prefer to avoid eventual problems, and make everything ready from home, and don’t want to waste holiday time worrying about paperwork and Immigration issues.

Save a lot of money, by buying flighttickets with fixed dates.

he has a good point, might not be your dream… but it’s sure one hell of a lot better than Sydney!

Before you pack down all of your Sydney life, make a testrun of the dream life in Thailand, it might not be the dream, when everyday life kick in, so start out with a 90 day testrun on 60 days tourist visa + 30 day extension.

Australians don't get 60 days visa on arrival they receive 30 days visa exempt if you want longer stay you either do 60 day tourist visa application in Australia before arriving or 30 day visa exempt and 30 day extension at thai immigration 1900baht its your airline that will require a return or onward ticket out of thailand the airline may deny you boarding if you don't have it
