What are the best options for extending my stay in Thailand as an Australian without a visa?

Hi all. As an Aussie, I understand that I can stay in country for 30 days without a visa. I am hoping to visit Northern Thailand for two or three months. What’s the simplest way to extend my visit, can I do a couple of extensions while in Thailand or do I have to do visa runs to a neighbouring country (eg - Laos)? I realise there are various retirement visa options, however I am trying to keep it simple at this stage. Thank you in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
As an Australian, you can enter Thailand without a visa for 30 days. If you wish to stay for two or three months, the easiest option is to obtain a 60-day tourist visa before your trip, which can be extended for an additional 30 days once in Thailand—eliminating the need for a visa run. Alternatively, if you plan to stay longer, consider applying for an education visa or the Special Tourist Visa (STV), which allows a longer stay but has additional requirements.

Alternatively you can get the clunky STV which is good for nine months. Comes with a lot of baggage, but long term you don't have to leave the country so you save on fares, tests, insurance.

No problem mate, safe trip

Get a tourist visa before entering Thailand which is good for 60 days then you can get a 30 day extension and not need to do a border run which at the moment you can’t do anyway.

If you intend to stay longer than that I’d suggest an education visa.

If you're planning on being here for 3 months, get a 60 day tourist visa before you leave. That can be extended one time in country for another 30 days.
