TLDR : Answer Summary
To transfer your visa to your new US passport in Thailand, you cannot simply transfer a visa but can transfer an extension. You will need to take both your old and new passports to Thai immigration, along with photocopies of all stamped pages in the old passport and the face pages of both passports. Some expats have reported needing a letter from their embassy, while others did not require one. Make sure to check all details and expiry dates during the process. It is advisable to prepare a list of necessary steps for a smoother experience.

You will receive a letter from the embassy along with your passport asking Thai immigration to transfer your visa to the new passport. I just did this about 3 weeks ago.

When I got a new Belgium passport in Bangkok the embassy gave me a letter explaining why I got a new passport. With this letter and my old and new passports Thai immigration transferred the necessary information.

Walk in to Airport immigration. Give them both passports and a full photocopy of every stamped page in the old passport and face page of both. You will get a couple of forms to complete.

Hand everything in. Get it back. Usually around 3 stamps and writing in the front page.

MAKE SURE YOU CHECK EVERYTHING AND EXPIRY DATES ARE ALL THE SAME.

Next extension, just in case take both passports as well.

Sometimes there will be a letter sometimes not. As Australians we personally write the new passport number in the old passport.

Iโ€™m English and had a new passport last year I went to immigration and the lady said I needed a letter from my embassy. When I told her I had just come in on the new one she was advised by one of the senior guys there that I did not need a letter from my embassy. That was Jontiem Immigration. Hope that helps
