How do I transfer my visa to a new passport when exiting Thailand?

New Passport DVT transfer.

After getting my new passport I wasn't quite sure how it would work transferring the visa over.

I flew out of Suvarnabhumi and as I came down the escalator was directed to the new electronic gates. I explained i would need a stamp in my passport and they still pointed at the gates. Ignoring this i went and joined the line for a human immigration officer.

Once I explained that I had a new passport and would need a stamp, I was escorted to a desk at the back where they transfered the stamp coming in previously and the new exit stamp into my new passport πŸ₯³πŸ₯³πŸ₯³. No questions, no issues, no problems. They advised to bring both passports when I next enter πŸ‘

TLDR : Answer Summary
The discussion revolves around transferring visa stamps from an old passport to a new one when traveling in and out of Thailand. The original poster shares their personal experience of successfully transferring an entry stamp while exiting through Suvarnabhumi Airport. Comments highlight varying opinions on the necessity of stamp transfers, the process of exiting with two passports, and clarifications about visa types, including E-visas. The consensus suggests that while it's possible to transfer stamps, travelers should consistently carry both their old and new passports due to visa regulations.

Why where you explaining you need a stamp? You don't need a stamp for exiting, you can just exit with passport in automatic gate.

Only when you need some kind of proof you exited the country you might need the stamp.

Everybody whos asks for a stamp will get a stamp without problems, some just like to have the stamp.

I've literally asked them about it and they clearly said stamp transferring is unnecessary. We just need to keep 2 passports.

It's worth noting that you didn't get your visa transferred, only your entry stamp. You will still need to carry both passports

incorrect πŸ™„- just trying to be helpful, always someone wanting to be pedantic. E-VISA = stamp so only need the 2 passports for my next entry !
John **********
Anonymous participant wrong. The evisa is the pdf file you receive by email when your visa is approved, nothing to do with a stamp. This should be printed out and presented along with both passports the next time you enter, the only thing they did for you was move your entry stamp to your new passport so it was there to match your exit stamp.

In fact as I interpret the story, the only thing they did is gave him an exit stamp.
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer You will need the 2 passports AND the visa for the rest of the visa period.

The E-visa is NOT the stamp in your passport, the e-visa is the PDF you got.

So who here is pedantic??

I have the old sticker in my passport and I’m curious about this. I go through immigration with 2 passports but would be nice to switch it all to my new one
Luit *****************
Anonieme deelnemer 326 You should have thought about that when you applied for the visa, when you don't want to have 2 passports with you all the time you should have applied for a new passport first.
John **********
Anonymous participant 326 you can't switch the visa, just carry both passports

For the Thai DTV, it depends:

Do you have the older DTV Thai Visa Sticker in your Passport Book, or

Do you have a DTV Thai E–Visa PDF File that you would have a hard copy Paper Print out??

No different procedures for e-visa or visa sticker with new passport.

In both cases you just need both passports because the visa is for the old passport.

I heard some stories that when authorites put in a remark in your new passport that it is a replacement for the old one with number, that also might work.

Not sure if it is worth the risk of getting trouble getting in.
