Good morning, need some advice regarding transferring of extension to a new passport.
I have received a new passport and have a letter from my embassy giving details of both passports. I am on an extension that expires in September (the extension gets done in chiang Mai). I am in Bangkok now though. Can immigration in Bangkok or samut prakan transfer the extension stamp even though the extension was stamped by chiang Mai? Or what process do I need to follow to transfer the stamp to my new passport. Thank you ππ½

TLDR : Answer Summary
You can transfer your visa extension to your new passport at the immigration office that issued the extension. While generally it should be done in Chiang Mai, you can also check with immigration offices in Bangkok or Samut Prakan. You will need to present both your old and new passports along with a letter from your embassy confirming the passport change. Most offices will carry out this transfer for free, though some may charge a fee.
As a rule (especially on long term extensions; retirement, marriage, education, volunteer, etc) you get the extension transferred to a new passport at the immigration office that issued it.
You take both passports AND the letter from your consulate stating you got a new passport to the immigration office, they move the current extension, note the date you entered and note the previous passport number. MOST offices do it for free but some charge money (and sadly don't give a receipt :O)
with the current restrictions on travelling etc I was wondering if itβs possible to do it locally but if it has to be done at the immigration office specifically Iβm not sure when that can be done
