TLDR : Answer Summary
If you have renewed your expired passport while in Thailand and hold a DTV visa in your old passport, you cannot transfer the visa to the new passport. Instead, you should bring both passports when entering Thailand. Local immigration can transfer your entry stamp and provide an additional stamp with the DTV details, allowing you to travel with both passports. Some users suggest carrying the old visa page in the new passport, while others confirm the requirement of presenting both passports during your stay.

I was an international student here and my passport also expired during my studies. The embassy of my passport country provided a letter requesting my visa to be transferred while it was still valid. So I assume that should be the case as well.

You can NOT transfer a visa into a new passport.

They can transfer your entry stamp and an extra stamp with the DTV details at local Immigration, after that you can travel with one passport.

OR bring both passports as long as the DTV is valid.
