I am currently in England, I have a Thai marriage visa and my passport runs out soon.what do I need to do. Do I get a new passport then send my old passport and new passport to London to have the visa stamps transferred over. ?
Answer summary
If you have a Thai marriage visa and your passport is about to expire while in the UK, the recommended steps are to first obtain a new passport. When you travel to Thailand, carry both your old and new passports. At immigration, present both passports: the old one containing your valid visa and re-entry permit, and the new one for entry. Immigration will stamp your new passport with the appropriate extension date. Once in Thailand, visit the local immigration office to transfer your visa extension and any relevant stamps from your old passport to your new one.

I have just had the same issue happen to me. I left the UK with a non o visa, I had 10 months on my passport. Marriage visa required 6 months on my passport. By the time I got married and a bank account took me under the 6 months by 7 days. I had to get a new passport, and new visa. I am going tomorrow to get my marriage visa approved.
Oh I had to start everything again from day one. Bank statements tomorrow and then off to Immigration for my marriage visa approved My problem was that it took 2 months to open a bank account. Even after I had opened it and deposited the money. They came out to my house to check that I actually stayed there before they would actually open my account.
It's got nothing to do with the UK what stamps you have to enter Thailand. It's a very simple process and you are worrying without reason. Simply get a new passport in the UK. Travel to Thailand with BOTH passports. Present at immigration showing your visa extension and re entry permit and you will be stamped in as normal up to the end of your extension, in your new passport. When convenient to you, visit your local immigration office to transfer the visa extension stamps to your new passport, this is normally free of charge.
Frank Johnston you must travel with both passports, because your old passport contains a still valid stay permit and a still valid re-entry permit. You show both passports when you enter Thailand. Don't forget to fill in and submit the TDAC digital arrival card, and use your NEW passport number. This can be done up from 72 hours of your planned arrival in Thailand
Assuming you have a re-entry permit you travel back with both passports and get the stamps transferred at your local immigration office after you return to Thailand
you hand over both passports at immigration, have the old one open to the page with the re-entry stamp. You'll get stamped in until the expiry date of your re-entry permit
Frank Johnston then you visit Immigration with both passports, and they will transfer your 1-year extension stamp and the re-entry stamp (in case it is a multi re-entry permit) into your new passport
Frank Johnston I hope you got a re-entry permit for your already existing 1-year stay permit. Immigration will stamp a new entry stamp (admitted until) into your NEW passport. Make sure they stamp you until the expiry of your already existing 1-year Extension of Stay (you don't have a "marriage visa", you have a 1-year extension of the stay permit based on marriage)
