How can I transfer my Tourist Visa to an Education Visa while on Amnesty in Thailand?

So I have been trying to transfer my Tourist Visa to Education Visa.. I have spoken with my school and they took Visa to Immigration and immigration said it can be done, but I need an Extension Letter from US Embassy.

Back and forth with US Embassy for last few days. They say they are not granting extension letters at this time.

I acknowledged that but I said this is a special case where immigration WILL NOT transfer the VISA to education VISA if I am on the Free Amnesty stay granted recently by the Thai Government.

I figure I would ask here if there are any options left available for me. I would like to get it transferred in-country

if possible.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice on transferring their Tourist Visa to an Education Visa in Thailand but faces complications due to the recent Amnesty policy. They have been informed that they need an Extension Letter from the US Embassy, which is currently not being issued. Comments from other users suggest that without a valid stay period, the transfer may not be possible and recommend waiting until they can apply for an Education Visa from a Thai consulate once travel restrictions are lifted.

Unfortunately
@Ric****
, that you can't understand why they won't do it doesn't even factor in to the equation.

FWIW: none of the immigration offices that issue in country Non-Immigrant type visas that I know of will issue one once you go on to either an "unable to travel due to covid'19" extension OR take the free amnesty.

You need "real" days left on your stamp to do it .

You are correct in your guess, sit tight on the amnesty, and as soon as the borders AND thai consulates in other countries open up, GO and get an ED visa

I assume your admitted or permitted up to date is in the past and you use the amnesty to stay inside Thailand.

That means you do not have the minimum of 15 or 21 days of valid stay left to do the conversion. All you can do is wait until you can get back into Thailand with a new Non Immigrant ED visa from a Thai Consulate
