Hi guys, I apologize if this question has already been asked. I am currently about to start my second year of an education Visa, I'm trying to get a letter from the US embassy for me to give immigration. Has anyone got any updates on the education visa for the second year? The language school that I am enrolled with is currently waiting for updates, and I am currently trying to get a letter from my embassy. I am looking for advice from people in similar situations. Thank you in advance 🙏😊

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is seeking advice about their education visa (ED visa) as they approach their second year of study in Thailand and need a letter from the US embassy for immigration. The comments suggest that if the student has been consistently attending classes, there should be no issues with obtaining an extension, which is handled every 90 days with appropriate paperwork from the school. However, there is confusion regarding travel restrictions that may prevent students from re-entering Thailand, and there are concerns about how to manage visa renewals under current conditions.

I'm in the same position as you.I don't know what bullshit some comments have been made. There is no answer right now. As you have to leave Thailand and come back in on a 30 day/ tourist visa and then your school has to apply for the second year educational visa to immigration office.

That's a fact.

And right now you can leave but not re-enter the country.

Sure my school has "close ties" too. And all I hear is talk. Anyhow good luck with everything

right that's what I thought my school had told me. I wasn't a hundred percent sure, but yeah that sounds about right that's why I getting the second year of the Visa has not been approved yet because we can't come back in to the country. That's also why I'm looking for a letter from my embassy and my school is waiting for approval so hopefully they go through with that. 🤞👍😃

I wouldn't depend on a school if it is a small school.

my school is the main one in my area they actually have close ties with immigration. They should have an update next month but the question is if visas are not approved what are people in my situation supposed to do because the travel restrictions don't really allow people to go back home necessarily. So I don't see another logical way to handle the Visas other than approving the second year for people.

If you have actually been going to school there should be no problem, as an ED visa has to be extended at immigration every 90 days, with the paperwork your school gives you, showing you have been in school. This 90 day extension process continues as long as you are in school, up to three years. There is no new visa requirement, as long as you have been in school. If you are in a language school, expect the immigration officer to test you on how much formal spoken Thai you now know, if in fact you have been going to school. If you haven't, and you do not have the 90 day extensions in your passport, you are in serious trouble, as you do not fall under this amnesty, and your visa expired right after you missed the first 90 day extension. Your school is very aware of all this. If you used an agent, then you still must have each 90 day extension in your passport. There is no letter your embassy can give you saying anything about you qualifying for an ED visa extension.

yes I have been going to school, of course I have missed a few here and there just due to personal reasons but I go twice a week normally. I have followed the rules as closely as I can to how they are supposed to be and I have done everything that I can do from my side. I have been asking my school if everything is okay with the pizza and they have just basically told me that they are waiting for approval for students to get their second year started. So I'm not exactly sure what's stopping them as my Visa expired in June and I have just been on the amnesty, as you mentioned my school is handling everything they are a legitimate and reputable School in my area as they are probably the biggest and main one. so I'm just waiting for them to confirm but thank you for the replies and as I mentioned I'm just looking for people who have other insights into this. Thanks again I will look forward to more replies.

If there was no school because of the virus lockdown and your extension expired during that time, that ended, and your school should be up and running, and immigration has made allowances for that as long as you have all your previous 90 day extensions from them after you first got your visa. It is all about your required 90 day extension based on ED visa.

yes, we did not go to school during the lockdown as they were closed. We did a few online classes with video calls and now we are back up and running and going to the school. So as I mentioned I have signed papers regarding my classes and I'm just waiting for them to tell me whether or not I can go forward with the next step and pay the fees and continue as normal so I'm just waiting for that confirmation. Thank you again I really do appreciate the insight and advice. 😊🙏

@Bryant ******
, have you been getting your extension every 90 days from immigration from the time you first got your visa? Is so then there is no getting a new visa, as everything is based on your 90 day extension date, and when that expires. As long as you are in the same school there is no new visa required, unless you missed one of the 90 day extensions. If you did, then your visa/extension expired the next day. Something doesn't make sense though. Language schools are not year to year, they are continuous, with no break, and all you need is each 90 day extension. Universities have already started classes, so if you are going there you should have all your extension paperwork, as you still must do 90 day extension. I have went to language school, and done all this.

yes I have done the immigration check-ins every 90 days with my school I have done four of them so that makes one year, I have also signed a bunch of paperwork regarding the classes I took throughout that year, I have not paid for the next classes as I believe we have to pay for one year worth of classes each time as far as I know that's how it is with my school but every year we pay for the same thing of about 1 year worth of classes, and so I've signed paperwork and I have sign for the classes that I took for my first year in total. so I'm just waiting for them to give me the green light to move forward and pay for the next year worth of classes along with going to immigration for the stamp in my passport.

Each immigration office has the power to make exceptions to just about everything, and based on your situation, you should fall under an exception, and not have to leave. Your school is fully behind you,band that means allot to immigration and the ministry of education.

okay, thanks. Yes as far as I know I've done everything I can do from my side and I've signed all the paperwork, and I'll just have to see what they say next. Hopefully they go forward with it as I'm not the only one in this situation and as I mentioned a lot of people can't travel normally. So I'll just have to see what they say.

@Bryant ******
, good luck, and stay in school...hehe. it will work out.
Kool *******
Being your delay was virus related, immigration has been working with people in your situation, and positively. Everything should work out so you do not have to leave.

okay, thank you again I'll just have to speak with my school and as they told me they will mention any updates and tell me what to do but I'll just have to ask them again and see what the next step is. Thanks again 🙏😊

@Bryant ******
, yes, that is the case. But, if you let your extension expired, because you didn't pay for the next series of classes, then you might have to start over, and that means leaving the country. What you pay for is, and this is the ministry of education requirement, is 160 hours of classes over the next year in order to qualify for your ED visa, and extensions.

okay, well I just followed what my school told me to do. they said normally we have to leave the country and come back in to start the next year of classes, I'll have to ask them regarding my extension as yes I believe it did it expire in June and I'll just have to ask them if they know what the situation is. As I mentioned the school is one of the main schools in my area and they seem to know what they're doing but I'll just have to ask a few questions then to see if they know exactly what I should do next.

I would suggest your school should have everything under control. There should be no need for an extension letter.

Unless you are changing to a different school.
Shayne **********
Basically it's the school fee plus a variable changeover fee from official groups inside Thailand that assist with this type of thing whether you are new or doing another year. Because it's exactly the same process less the travel and they are doing the same for everyone.

okay thank you for your information and your help, I really do appreciate it. I guess I will just have to see what my school says oh, I hope they get the visa. I will continue to try to get a letter from my embassy just in case it helps but so far I have not been able to get anything. I believe they will probably approve everyone because of the situation right now and not being able to travel properly. It would be a huge inconvenience if they did not approve the Visas because people would be stuck or having to travel to other countries other than their home country. There are also not a lot of flights going to most countries so again I just hope they approve everything. Thanks again for your help. 🙏😊

okay, thanks for the info. I am not changing schools, but my school is currently waiting to see if immigration will allow for people with their second year to be renewed. I have heard that people getting their first year are having no problem but because we cannot leave the country to do a Visa run as normal there has to be approval 4 getting the second year from immigration.
