I am currently on the amnesty until July 31st, but was on a visa-exempt 30 days (American) before it expired in April. I am currently accepted at a Thai university but am only allowed to study with an education visa. Has somebody in a similar situation been able to change visa types in Thailand due to COVID-19 lockdowns?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The poster is on a visa amnesty until July 31st and had a visa exempt stay prior. They wish to switch to an education visa to study at a Thai university. Responses suggest that changing visa types during amnesty may not be allowed, but Thai universities might help secure an education visa from within Thailand if enrolled in a full-time program.

It has been said before that Thai Universities may be able to assist you obtain an Ed Visa INSIDE Thailand. Ask yours if they can.

Key being whether you are studying a full time course leading to a Bachelor or Master's University degree.

Good Luck

To my understanding, a person can study on whatever visa (or visa exempt) that exist. For changing visa types while on amnesty, I believe the answer is no. Being on amnesty is like being on overstay, except with all the overstay fees waived.
