Can I apply for a Thai 60-day visa from the Thai embassy in Colombo while traveling through Sri Lanka?

I'm new to this forum and fairly new to Thailand, though I have been twice in the last six months. On both occasions I secured a 60 day visa from the Thai embassy in London. Whilst in Thailand I neither extended my visa nor overstayed. Simply returned to the UK.

Anyway my question is this, I am going to Sri Lanka in April for a month, and I intend to fly to Thailand from there (return ticket back to SR)

So would I be able to apply for the 60 day visa from the Thai embassy in Colombo?

I (UK citizen) attempted to apply for a 60 day single visa when in Sri Lanka, and the whole process was ridiculous couldn't obtain all the proof necessary for it, such as I wasn't employed at the time yet they wanted a letter from my employer. Better off getting a visa back home id say.

How long are you staying in Thailand? As a UK citizen you'll get a 30 day visa exemption when entering the country and you can also apply for a 30 day extention, giving you around 60 days in the country.

Yes you can apply with the same hassle of collecting documents and travelling to immigration

Plus, I can extend it for another 30 days.

Rbcr Rob The SETV only gives you 60 days but it is probably your best bet. You'll still need to go to immigration to apply for the extra 30 days

I found it easier to apply for 60 days by post to the Thai embassy in London. And this also meant not having to watch the calendar before 30 days expire, nor the hassle of collecting documents and travelling to immigration.

I aim to stay for three months.

Furthermore, the bank statement has to be issued by a local bank in Sri Lanka as described below:

If I can I will update you.

Yeah I mean if you are there for a month you can enquire and let us know if you have nothing to lose apart from a little bit of time, but I am pretty confident they stick to the rules on Sri Lankan bank statement.

On balance I think I will apply for my visa in London again as I have three months to activate it.

All the consulates and Embassies on this planet have different requirements. I believe I read a report of someone trying this one out, and failed because of the bank statement not being as required.

Whereas the Thai embassy in London don't ask for proof of anything!

Unfortunately you will only be able to apply in Colombo if you can provide the following:

You better check the requirements of the Thai Consulate in Sri Lanka, they are not as easy to deal with as London.

You could be right. I've just checked the Embassy website in Colombo, and there is a checklist as long as your arm. Wanting evidence of everything and you may have to attend an interview. It is obviously designed for Sri Lankans.

Shouldn’t be any problem.

Just carry the 3 proofs of when you fly in.

20k THB Cash (any currency equivalent of)

Onward travel ticket.

Hotel booking or proof of where you’re staying.

If only it was that easy, a lot stricter than most country's, its designed for Sri Lankans not foreigners
