Hey, all. I have previously entered Thailand on a free 30 day visa and then extended it to 60 days a different time. I am currently in Siem Reap trying to get a 60 day visa to re-enter Thailand and have been told by the hostel I am going through that they now require an “original pass book” or “original bank book.” I’m told this is common to have if you have a Thai bank account, but I do not. I have given them my most recent bank statement from the States, but they are saying that’s no longer enough to get the 60 day visa. I’ve also asked if there’s another company to go through but they have assured me this is a new regulation and it will be the same elsewhere.

*UPDATE: I was told they cannot process my visa here in Siem Reap because of this new stipulation, even though I explained that banks in the U.S. don’t offer a paper “pass book” like those in Thailand. I was told to get another extension once I am back in Bangkok. However, I’m not sure how many extensions or free 30 day entrees you’re allowed in a 6 month period. Any info on this? Thank you!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on the current requirements for obtaining a 60-day visa for Thailand from Siem Reap, as they were informed that a Thai 'original pass book' is now necessary in addition to a bank statement from their home country. They express concern about this new regulation, as they do not have access to a Thai bank account and were advised to apply for another extension upon their return to Bangkok. Several comments provide personal experiences and suggest alternatives, including seeking assistance from travel agents or considering other Thai consulates in the region.

My experience in May using a travel agent in Siem Reap was odd but worked. They wanted a photo and usual copies of the passport. They copied six months of my bank account statements in the USA. Charged me fifty dollars or so and took it off to Phnom Penh. A week later I had the SETV. No onward travel ticket required.

To be fair the Mad Monkey Hostel employees - who assured me they do this ALL the time - said it must have changed this week. Still waiting to hear back from them though, as I asked them to triple check about the pass book thing and get back to me.

my understanding is any old travel agent can deal with this task.

, remember you're dealing with AGENTS in Siem Reap who are going to take your passport to the thai consulate in Phnom Penh who may or may not know the real requirements at that consulate to get a tourist visa.

The thai consulate in Phnom Penh is NOT the most user friendly consulate in S/E Asia and if you're unable to meet the requirements as they're listed on their website you should think of using Vientiane (the most user friendly thai consulate in the area).

Good to know, thank you for the advice!

Where does it say you need a thai bankaccount. Just see 1.000 euro for a single entry visa and 2.000 for a family.

It doesn’t, that’s the issue. The agents (and thus the hostel workers who speak to the agents) say I need a pass book, which is not a common thing to have if your bank account is located in the United States. I was told this is common to have, however, if you have a Thai bank account. I was given a price of $65 USD for the 60 day visa, assuming they can still do it...

How do people who like to go to Thailand for the first time in their live, going to show a Thai Bank account? Just read these requirements, meet them and go yourself to the Thai Embassy.

Yes they’re not saying I need a Thai bank account, but they’re requiring a pass book. The girl I’ve been speaking with says she’s done these visas for tourists many times and it’s the first time they’ve asked for more than a bank account statement from your home country. So strange. And unfortunately the embassy is in Phnom Penh, which I don’t have time to go to in person during this trip.
