Hi guys I am a UK passport holder. In Cambodia on a business visa last few years. I'm considering making a move to Thailand at some point and need some advice about getting there from Cambodia and what the rules would be.(dont want to fly back to UK first)

Should I contact a visa agency in thailand, should I contact embassy (thai or uk)

What kind of visa allows for long term stay

Anything else I shd know?

Love thailand but always been in on shorter visas in the past.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A UK passport holder currently in Cambodia on a business visa is seeking advice on moving to Thailand without returning to the UK first. They inquire about suitable visa options for a long-term stay and whether to contact a visa agency or an embassy for guidance. Comments reveal the need to communicate with the Thai embassy in Phnom Penh for accurate information, mention of entry requirements like a 45-day tourist visa, and complications arising from COVID-19 travel bans affecting access to the embassy.

Enter on 45 day tourist visa. You can try 60 day covid extensions or get education or volunteer visa. For the later you need to apply within 2 weeks of entering. Thats what I have been told anyway.

There should be a banner running across the top, first stop contact your local embassy then come to this page if anything is ambiguous.

perhaps they should simply change the name of the group from “Visa Advice” to “Abuse when asking for advice”.

thanks I can't access the embassy due to a travel ban

@Kay *****
Is there is a travel ban, what is the point?

It's a 14 day travel ban within Cambodia from province to province. I'm not in the capital Phnom penh where the Thai consulate is. But if I have proof of flight ticket I am able to travel to Phnom Penh by taxi

@Kay *****
thai embassy or consulate website and search Google or this page to easily learn the basics, then perhaps as was suggested, as any questions here if something seems confusing.

thanks they have just locked down the provinces here I have no way of getting to PP

@Kay *****
you can extend 30 days. Work permit near impossible since you have to enter with b visa. Contact thsi embassy in pnom Penh... They'll tell you what's possible. Use the phone or email. Thailand is a disaster right now anyhow. Protests, students being killed, military dictatorship, everything closing because of covid... 14 day quarantine in arrival and lots of other crap.

@Stan ******
Thailand is no disaster, and no students have been killed. Everything is not closed. You do not live here, so quit spreading lies.

@Stan ******
do you know Thailand is the country between Myanmar and Cambodja....your comment has a lot of crap inside...

Military dictatorship sounds scary. Things getting weird in Cambodia too. Just imposed curfews and travel bans

I wouldn't plan to visit CM this time of year. Planning south and central thailand if I can get there.

retirement visa, if you're old enough...

@Carrie *******
not old enough, was told I can enter on a 45 day visa and then work with an agency to extend

@Kay *****
I think they have a special long term visa right now as well, starts at 90 days and can be extended, but someone I'm sure knows more about this than I do...

@Peter **********
it may be wherever you are, you don't say. It definitely isn't here in Cha Am.

Lots are down south because of the Polution up here but very clear now after the rains.

@Peter **********
you are absolutely correct. I love the area and have visited many times over the last 30 years. The pollution got so bad, especially in Chang Mai, that I haven't been since I moved to Thailand five years ago.

@Andy *******
I've lived in CM for 12yrs... I play in a band & there's a massive slump... CM lost its vibe well before the Covid kicked in.

My opinion so don't take it as concrete.

Chiang Mai is only dead in the touristy areas like the Old City, etc. More local parts are pretty busy like normal.
Andy ********
@Peter **********
I think CM needs to do work on two fronts.

Firstly cut down the pollution.

Secondly and as important. Go on a charm offensive to show that pollution is improving. Also highlight when the air quality is good.

I am not alone in my reluctantance to travel north.

@Andy *******
Chiang Mai / Phayoa / Chiang Rai are ghost towns

@Peter **********
You’ve basically answered your own point as to why it’s “dead as a door nail” by saying you are in chiang Mai area. It is by far the worst place province to be in this time of the year
Sammy *******
@Peter **********
disagree cm is certainly slow, but hardly a ghost town.

Bangkok is busy too certainly not dead by s long way

@Peter **********
where are you ? Where I am is at least 70% back to normal. Plenty going on. And getting busier everyday.
