Non O Based on Marriage Sa Keao immigration Arrayprathet. This might be of use for anyone looking to use Sa Keao immigration for their one year extension of stay based on marriage. It would appear that this office goes way beyond the norm to get this, I re-entered back in Jan on 30days visa free and went to apply for the Non O based on marriage with my 400k just transferred. This wasn't possible they said and they then laid out what I had to do. First I was to get another 30 days visa free, then I can get the 60 days based on thai family, and then I could apply for the Non O based on married and all this time I was to keep the 400k in my thai account. once I got the 3 month extension I also had to keep the money in my account and when I returned i was given another month extension for under consideration while my paperwork was sent to bkk. I had to submit the huge amount of documents to meet the criteria twice, once when applying for the 3 month extension and once when I went back to get the 1 month under consideration. I'm led to believe that this is supposed to be a 2/3 month process but for me, it's taken close to 8 months and yesterday I was finally given my one-year extension so such a relief, after all, we have been through. It must be said though that even though they have been very thorough they were extremely helpful at the immigration office and gave us clear and concise instructions each time we went and they were explaining it all really well. anyway, I thought this might be useful info for anyone using Sa Keao immigration as it appears to be a long process for some than at other offices so best to be prepared for that.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post details the author's lengthy process of obtaining a one-year extension of stay in Thailand based on marriage through the Sa Keao immigration office. They initially entered Thailand on a 30-day visa-free entry and faced challenges in applying directly for the Non-O visa, ultimately needing to hold a 400,000 baht balance in their Thai bank account throughout the process. The author had to obtain additional 30-day and 60-day extensions before finally applying for the one-year extension, which took nearly eight months. Despite the challenges, the immigration office was described as helpful and clear in their instructions.

Could this be a lesson that it's better to get the 90 day visa based on marriage before coming here? We often say, get the visa that best fits your intentions.

good point, AND I think he could have went to Savannakhet Lao and gotten a 90 day single entry Non-O in two days with no proof of funds, FAR easier than that hoop jumping exercise he went thru ๐Ÿ˜•

he could have came in on it, got 90 days, put the money in the bank and then went to apply for the year extension when he had 30 days or less left on it and the funds were seasoned the 2 months for 1900baht

Oh well, he's got it now, so that's all water under the bridge

, You come in on Non-O marriage, open a bank account, then apply for a 1-year extension would work in most immigration offices. But like in that Sa Keao, if they ask you to have 3-month seasoning and if you want to accept it instead of standard 2-month seasoning, you don't have enough time for a 1-year extension. Maybe you still need to apply for 60 days family visit extension...

yep, I was thinking that same thing after I put that response too ๐Ÿ˜•

the ONLY reason that you couldn't have applied for the 90 day Non-O right off your 30 day visa exempt entry stamp would have been that you didn't have enough time left on the current stamp to cover the "under review period",

The requirement is you need 15 days or more left on your current stamp at MOST offices but some require 21 days or more <- making you have to take the 30 day regular extension.

BUT

once you got that extension you should have been fine applying for the 90 day Non-O visa UNLESS that office has the policy (that is NOT written in the rules) that the 400K baht needs to be seasoned 2 months before you apply for the 90 day non-O visa (most offices only require it be in the account on the day you apply and the seasoning comes into effect when you get the year extension)

There is also NO rule that says you need to have the funds in the account longer than 2 months before you apply for the extension (so their 3 month plus the under consideration thing they told you is fake too)

The sad thing is most people are not well versed enough in what the real rules are, won't argue with the officers; mostly due to the communication going from the officers THRU your thai wife and to you rather than you dealing with them in english on your own ๐Ÿ™

Glad you got it, sure sounded like a dog&pony show, hopefully next year your yearly extension won't be as convoluted.

Make SURE if you're going to leave the country that you buy a re-entry permit ๐Ÿ™‚ the last thing you need is to leave cancel your stamp and have to start that whole process all over again ๐Ÿ˜•

I hear what you're saying and we have spoken a couple of times about it, all in all I didn't want to really upset them at immigration as even though it was long winded they were nice and helpful about it all and even though I knew it was wrong what they were saying I just didn't want to upset the applecart and I suppose I have managed to get another 8 months stay before my 12 month was approved. and yes, i sure will do I'm just happy it's all done I got there in the end
