Can I obtain a 60-day tourist visa from the Thai Consulate in Vientiane after my 30-day exempt visa expires, and can I get a 30-day extension afterwards?

I have a 30-day exempt Visa which expires on December 9th. I am planning to go to the Thai Consulate in Vientiane to get a 60 day Thai tourist visa and then come back the next day after receiving it. I'm just a little nervous, and I want to make sure I am able to do this. My second question: can I go to the immigration office and get a 30-day extension if I am able to get the 60-day tourist visa? Sorry if this has been asked a million times before.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking clarification on two main points: 1) the process of obtaining a 60-day tourist visa at the Thai Consulate in Vientiane before their current 30-day exempt visa expires, and 2) whether they can subsequently extend their stay by 30 days at the immigration office after acquiring the tourist visa. Responses from the community confirm that visiting the consulate to apply for the tourist visa is straightforward and that obtaining a 30-day extension on the new visa is also possible.

There is no problem going to Vientiane to apply for a single entry tourist visa. You turn in your documentation and passport one morning before 11:30 and you pick up your passport with the visa in it and pay the next afternoon after 1:30PM. You can come right back to thailand after that..

There also will not be a problem getting a 30 day extension at the immigration office on that 60 day stamp you get when you enter on your tourist visa.

Also one last thing; Don't feel you have to wait until your current stamp is almost expiring to get a 30 day extension. They ADD the extension on to your current expiration date (so you don't lose any days going early).

Good Luck (y)

The real question is

Have you extended your current 30 day visa exempt entry by 30 more days at the immigration office yet?

IF no, you could do that before you go get the single entry tourist visa from Vientiane.

I believe you can extend your 30 day exempt stamp for 1900 baht
