How can I extend my tourist visa in Bangkok, and what are the requirements for the application?

Hi everyone, my initial tourist visa (60 days + 30 days of extension) expires on the 1st September and I want to apply for the regular 30 days extension in Bangkok.

Do I have to go in advance to the Chaeng Wattana office (when exactly?)?

Do I need to book a plane ticket at the end of September to prove them I'll get out of the country by the end of the extension?

Also, they ask for a passeport photo; is it enough if it's printed or should I go have my photo taken somewhere (where?)?

Thank you very much, these procedures are really confusing to me!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks guidance on extending their initial tourist visa in Bangkok before it expires on September 1st. They want to know if they need to visit the Chaeng Wattana office in advance, whether booking a flight ticket is necessary to prove exit from the country, and the requirements for passport photos for the extension application. Community responses clarify that the extension can be applied for up to three business days before the current visa expires, outline required documents, and suggest having passport photos taken professionally to meet immigration standards.

About the photo part, if you can print it out on photo-type paper, it MIGHT work. But I doubt it could work if you print on standard paper. There are photo and copy shops on the floor 1 level lower at Cheangwattana (B building) if you need to get your photo done.

You will be applying for a 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19. You can apply this NO SOONER THEN 3 business days before your current stamp expires. You will need the following:

1. Your passport and:

a. a copy of your data ("picture") page

b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)

c. a copy of your most recent stamp

d. a copy of your departure card

2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.

3. The forms. FOR BANGKOK IMMIGRATION, you can find it in the files section.

4. 2x passport pictures

5. 1,900 THB.

>Do I need to book a plane ticket at the end of September to prove them I'll get out of the country by the end of the extension?

Not for Bangkok immigration.

>; is it enough if it's printed or should I go have my photo taken somewhere (where?

I suppose you can print out the photo itself, as long as it meets the criteria. But I recommend getting them done professionally.

I'm still on the initial 60 day tourist visa, and I mean to apply for the 30 days extension. And if I want to stay longer after that, I'll apply for the Covid extension. It's the correct order, right?

That's correct, ASSUMING The 60 day extension of stay based on unable to travel due to COVID-19 is still being sold that is.

Thank for your prompt response! I wanted to apply for the 30 days extension before turning to Covid extensions, but you think I should apply for the Covid extension first?

So did you actually GET the 30 day extension of stay based on tourism yet, or is this still a 60 day tourist visa that you're on?

HOWEVER, the paperwork is the same though ๐Ÿ™‚
