Hi all, I’m currently on a TR60 visa which expires 02 Feb, and am hoping to extend for a further 30 days. I have a few questions, please:
- is there an optimal date to extend? Does this need to be a certain duration before my current visa expires?
- how long does the process usually take? I’ll likely be doing this in Chiang Mai if that makes any difference…
- will I need to show my revised return flight? Is there any reason I shouldn’t go ahead and change this flight now?
Thanks!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on extending their TR60 visa, which expires on February 2nd, for an additional 30 days, and has questions about the best time to apply for the extension, the duration of the process, and the necessity of a revised return flight. Community members respond, indicating that extensions can be applied for anytime up to the last day of the visa, the process typically takes a few hours, and return flight details are not needed. They also provide a list of required documents for the extension process.
my plan was to buy a return ticket after 60 days .... but many say they might not get on the flight. since the entry visa is 30 days....crazy world nothing simple .Happy Xritmas.enjoy Thailand .
>is there an optimal date to extend? Does this need to be a certain duration before my current visa expires?
You can do it up to the last date. Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Buriram, Chiang Rai and a couple of others all allow people to apply for extensions when they have 45 days or less left on their current stamp. The other immigration offices are 30 days. However, ask your local immigration office for specific details.
> how long does the process usually take?
A few hours, depends on the length of the queue of course. The extension of stay is issued on the spot.
>will I need to show my revised return flight?
No. You will need the following:
1. Your passport and:
a. a copy of your data ("picture") page
b. a copy of your most recent visa (if you have one)
c. a copy of your most recent stamp
d. a copy of your departure card
2. A TM30, filed in the immigration office.
3. The forms (each immigration office may have different forms, and want to use their special forms)
