Hi. Forgive me if these questions are painfully obvious but I'm a first timer with this and all the corona impacts are making me a bit skittish.
--> US passport. Currently in Thailand on 60 day (single entry) tourist visa. My 60 days ends on March 25, 2020. I need to apply for my first 30 day extension.
From what I understand, I essentially have to go to the Thailand Immigration Office (10210 Bangkok, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon), bring whatever paperwork is required, pay the 1900 THB fee, wait around, and ultimately I should receive the 30 day extension that same day. Is this correct?
Also, does the 30 day extension run from the day I go to the Thai Immigration office and get the stamp, or does it add on to the end of my initial 60 days, regardless of when I apply for it? For example, if my 60 days is up on March 25, but I go to the Immigration office tomorrow, will the 30 day extension start tomorrow or would it not kick in until March 26? I'd rather get this all done sooner than later but not if it means I'd forfeit my remaining 60 days, if that makes sense.
Any other advice or things I should know in advance is appreciated.
TLDR : Answer Summary
A US passport holder currently on a 60-day tourist visa can successfully extend their stay by 30 days at a Thailand Immigration Office. To do this, one must submit required documents, including a passport and copies of relevant pages, pay a fee of 1,900 THB, and wait for the stamp, which adds 30 days to the current permission to stay. Importantly, the extension starts from the date of application, not the end date of the original visa.
