Good day to all, I have a question, my annual O married visa expire on 28 may every year, to renew the visa I must stay in the Country all the month of june because the Immigration take a month after expiring to consider the renewal. What can I do to move forward this date, because June I will like to travel abroad. Thank you for your suggestion.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on how to adjust the renewal date of their annual O married visa, which expires on May 28, to allow for travel in June. Suggestions from the community include informing immigration about travel plans when applying for the extension, potentially requesting a shorter extension or a temporary family visa to move the renewal date forward, and clarifying that the under consideration period does not change the expiration date of the next extension. The user is considering these options for their upcoming travel.

Uhm, just a few months ago I went out of the country during the under consideration period and was back by the day I had to get the stamp for the rest of the year - no problems. The re-entry permit was only good while my visa was still current - i. e. the under consideration period. This was Chiang Mai. I suggest asking your immigration office.

Or am I misunderstanding something?

Sorry if I come back again with this matter, But if instead, I apply for an O-A visa instead of an extension of O-married, I can travel any time before it is expired and get an extension when I'm back?

yes. but you need to apply for a 1-year extension based on retirement from Non-OA at leat once. You cannot apply for a 1-year extension based on being married to a Thai national from Non-OA entry directly.

Thank you all for your consideration, I will try with David and Tod suggestions. It is the 4th time that I apply for a one year extension and I would like to go in Italy in May/June instead of July/August.

okay, no matter how EARLY you apply for a new yearly extension (some offices you can do it when you have 30 days or less left on your current stamp, some offices you can do it when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp) it does not change the expiration date of the NEXT yearly extension EVEN if you get an under consideration stamp.

I just saw a person get an under consideration stamp that was almost 2 months out <- that was because the person applied for their year extension 30 days before their current extension expired and then they got the 30 day under consideration stamp (which is the first month of your next year)

He doesn't go back to the office to get the year inked in for 2 months now.. 😮BUT it didn't move his expiration date of his extension at all.

looks like you have three options

1 - do what Ellie suggested; tell them you will be traveling when you apply for the next extension and ask if they can give you a 2 month under consideration stamp. <- Now this won't move your renewal date at all just mean you don't come back in 30 days to get the extension. So next year you're back in the same situation. 😕

2 - do what David suggested; (which to me is the best option 🙂 ) ask if you can take the 60 day visit thai family extension <- this WILL move the renewal date two months out from now on.

3 - do what I suggested; ask if you can get an extension of less than a year <- sketchy at best 😕

I think the 60 day visit thai family extension, tagged on to the end of this current extension you have giving you 2 more months before you have to apply for the year is the way to go as it moves the renewal date for your yearly extension application

Thanx

อร์ for bringing that up (y) (y)

If your travel plan in June is only this year's thing,

Bring your detailed itinerary along with other documents when you go to the immigration office to apply for the next 1-year extension. And ask the officer to arrange the under-consideration period so you can travel during those days. Sometimes (but not always) the officer can give you a longer u/c period and arrange the schedule of home visits while you are in Thailand. No downside to asking.

You need to talk about it before you apply for an extension, not after the application is accepted and you get the u/c stamp.

You can start the process 30 days before, and up to 45 days before at some immigration offices.

, If he hasn't applied for it yet since his visa with which he started to stay in Thailand.

Good thinking David (y) I didn't think of that at all 😮
@ Antonino ****
a you could indeed take the 60 day visit thai family extension when this extension is ending and move the renewal date 2 months further down the road 🙂

@Tod ********
could the poster take the family extension for 60 days...then get the 1 year extension after...this would move the next years extension forward by 60 days.
Tod *********
@Wannikea ********
nope, the under consideration period on extensions is actually the first bit of your NEXT extension so it's added to the date your current stamp expires (no matter how early you go apply).

Then when you go in when that stamp runs out you get an extension that expires the same date as the one you had just a year out 😛

@Tod ********
thx, I thought the under consideration period might be moved up and they could get everything inked in by the end of May.
Tod *********
@Wannikea ********
which doesn't change the actual extension expiration date one single day (even with the under consideration period factored in). Extensions of stays are ADDED to your current expiration date 😉

As a rule, there is no way to move the date forward or (backward). ..

What you can do (which may or may not be successful) is THIS time when you apply for an extension tell them you only want 10 months (not the year) and see IF they will short change you on the next yearly extension by two months. The rule for extension says they can be granted for no MORE than a year at a time, (nothing in the rules about getting one shorter). I have seen this work ONE time only so there's no great track record if it working

AND

most of the time the officer just says "to move the date leave without a re-entry permit" cancelling the extension you have and then come back and start ALL over from scratch with the 90 day Non-O and new year extension
