What are my options for extending my Non-B visa in Thailand if I will be out of the country during the application window?

Hi- I am a US citizen on a Non-B visa (married to Thai wife) and looking to do another yearly extension at ChaengWattana by June 07, 2024.

I saw I can apply for an extension 30 days prior (?) to my permitted stay date of June 07 which would be as early as May 08, but the main issue is I will be on overseas travel from May 2-12 and then again May 21-June 16.

Given that I'll only be in BKK from May 13-20, what are my options for extending my visa, especially if there is the 'under consideration' period (3 weeks?) where they hold your passport?

Thanks for any advice or recommendations.

TLDR : Answer Summary
A US citizen with a Non-B visa (due to marriage to a Thai spouse) plans to extend their visa but will be traveling overseas from early May to mid-June 2024. They are concerned about applying for an extension given their travel schedule and the required under consideration period during which they need their passport available.

In bangkok you can apply for a yearly extension when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp <- meaning you can apply any time after April 23rd

AND

remember you'll get a 3 week under consideration stamp when you apply

SO

you need to work the dates and talk to them because you have to be back when that under consideration stamp runs out to get the year extension inked in

Just so you're clear, they don't HOLD your passport during the under consideration period, you just have a stamp saying to come back in 3 weeks.

There is no Non-B based on marriage to a thai, I think you might have a non-O visa extension based on marriage though

Great to hear- thanks. I am currently on a multi-reentry permit until June 07. Is that valid during the 'under consideration' stamp period or will I need to get a new reentry permit for my overseas trip in early May?

Thanks for the advice and will plan to speak with immigration to confirm. Appreciate it!

you need to TALK to the immigration office when you apply for the year extension and ask them BUT it is my experience that you would need a new re-entry permit that will cover the time that new stamp is valid for (it will only be good for the under consideration period)
