Regarding financial requirements for 1 year extension for non-o marriage. For the 40k/month method I thought I could choose between providing documentation of the previous year of monthly deposits OR income verification from our embassy.

Immigration told me I need BOTH. Is this common or is it more of an exception? Or maybe it was a misunderstanding.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The financial documentation for a 1-year extension of a Non-O marriage visa in Thailand typically requires proof of a minimum income of 40,000 baht per month. Some immigration offices may ask for both an embassy-issued income verification and evidence of monthly bank deposits, but practices can vary. It's important to clarify with local immigration as policies may differ, and some expats have reported conflicting information.

Your immigration office is telling you bad info.

If your profile is to be believed and you are indeed holding a US passport you can't get an affidavit of income from abroad notary letter from the ACS division of the US Embassy in thailand. They stopped that back on Dec 31st, 2018.

You either bank the 400K baht in a thai bank account in your name only for 2 months before you apply, OR you transfer in to the country a minimum of 40K baht a month, each month every month for the previous 12 months before you apply for the yearly extension OR you legally work here with a salary of at least 40K baht a month.

yes the immigration officer was aware that the US embassy doesn’t do the letters anymore and told that because of that I MUST use the 400K method because in order to use the 40k/month method they require BOTH the letter from the embassy AND bank statement showing the deposits for the previous 12 months

Or, like I said, something got lost in translation and misunderstood

i think it's more likely a lost in translation and it's written as one or the other in the immigration rules about extensions based on marriage to a thai .

You will need to prove that you have 12 months of incoming overseas transfers of at least 40K baht a month into a thai bank account in your name only.

You can get that from the bank by having them print a year detail transaction history and making sure that the transfer codes on all those were international.

and ASK YOUR local Thai immigration office for THEIR requirements. And...have you proof of 40,000 Thai baht deposits each of past 12 months?

If your Embassy provide the Affidavit of Income, you must use it as proof of monthly foreign income. Some Immigration offices want to see bank deposits of this monthly income as proof you actually have and use money to live inside Thailand.
