In 2021, have the monthly income requirements for extension of a Non O visa married to a thai changed from a bank letter and books to an embassy verification?

Must meet the financial requirement:

Security deposit of THB 400,000 in a Thai Bank Account for at least 2 months prior to the visa application; or

Monthly income of at least THB 40,000. A letter from the foreigner embassy has to be shown to verify this income

TLDR : Answer Summary
As of 2021, the income requirements for extending a Non-O visa for those married to a Thai citizen have not changed. Applicants may either provide a bank letter confirming a security deposit of THB 400,000 in a Thai bank account or show proof of a monthly income of at least THB 40,000. This income must be verified, preferably by an embassy affidavit if available, but if not, the income must be deposited monthly into a Thai bank account for the preceding twelve months. Changes in the rules regarding embassy provided income verification have led to stricter measures for those planning to use the monthly income method for their visa extension.

Look, I'm shutting this down because this post is getting hijacked with a completely unrelated question, with someone who entered Thailand using a different visa and extension of stay. Good luck

The rules have NOT suddenly changed :( You've always been able to show funds or income in your country when buying a VISA from a thai consulate in another country.

AND up until Dec 31st 2018 you could (if you were an aussie, a brit or an american) get a letter from the consulate here stating you had income in your country and use that to meet the proof of funds for monthly income method for visas and extensions, BUT if you're consulate no longer issues the letter and you want to use monthly income method your ONLY option is to transfer in from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only the minimum required amount each month every month for the previous year BEFORE you apply for your yearly extension.

The immigration office changed to the rules as soon as the consulates stopped issuing the income letters so that IF people still wanted to use monthly income they could, they just had to transfer it IN to the country every month for a year.

Okay,. lets see if we can't get this straightened out once and for all :)

IF you are BUYING a VISA from a thai consulate in your country before you come here you can show your monthly income going into your bank account in your country

BUT

IF you are getting a yearly extension INSIDE thailand based on marriage to a thai and you want to use monthly income method

AND

your consulate doesn't issue the income affidavit notary letters any more (like the US, the UK and Australia which DO NOT)

Your only option is to transfer IN to the country from abroad into a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 40K baht a month each month every month for the preceding 12 months before you apply for your extension. OR you use the 400K baht banked money method.

Just a reminder about this group’s rules. We do not mention, discuss, or refer to visa lawyers, agents, consultants, or visa mill “schools”. Information on those websites may be incorrect.

Almost all Thai government websites end with *.go.th

Thanks!

No problem, I just get nervous when the rules could suddenly change. 🧐

Nothing has changed at all

IF your embassy issues the "affidavit of income from abroad letter" that's what you use to show monthly income proof, BUT

If they don't issue it then to show proof of funds for the monthly income method you transfer in to the country into a thai bank account in your name only a minimum of 40K baht a month each month every month for the preceding 12 months before you apply for your extension.
