Hello everyone, my son is now 6 months old and was born in Chiang Mai(My husband,I and my son are not Thai citizen). We just got his passport from the embassy, it is blank, without any visa and stamp. I want to take him back to my country for two months to visit relatives and then return to Chiang Mai, I am on a one-year ED visa. Does my son need to apply for a separate visa when he returns to Thailand? What visa does he need? Or I could bring him back to thailand without Thailand visa for him? I hope someone with experience could give me some advice. Thank you so much!

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user is inquiring whether their 6-month-old son, born in Chiang Mai, needs a visa to return to Thailand after a two-month visit to their home country. The son currently has a passport but no visa or stamps. Comments suggest that while technically a visa may be needed, there are generally no fines for children and they typically won't face issues when returning, especially if proper documentation (like a birth certificate) is presented.

that's what I was worried about πŸ˜„ my daughter also was born in Thailand and almost two years live here without any visa, but I asked immigration many times, they told "don't worry " 🀷

I had a similar issue (but different countries and passports). I was warned that my baby son might not be able to board a plane out of the country as he had not entered it .. the risk was that he could be considered as β€˜stolen’ ..

Allow yourself extra time when leaving, they will want to check birth certificate etc.

When returning as Nigel said

Kids dont get fined for overstaying and its not a problem. Its only later on with schooling and stuff, for now when you return just do the visa on arrival (presume Chinese citizen)

Technically s/he needs a visa, but, don't worry about it. Can't be fines and can't be banned.

If he was born here doesn't that make him Thai? Or is your partner not Thai

Jus Soli is almost exclusively just in the americas other then a couple other countries. Most places you need at least one parent to be a citizen.

No, simply being born in Thailand doesn't make a child Thai.
