Sorry if stupid question but does my daughter have to be present when I go to extend her ED visa? Or can I do without her there? She’d normally be in school obviously.

Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The necessity of your daughter being present for her ED visa extension can vary by location in Thailand. In Phuket, it is currently required that the child be present, while in Krabi, a digital picture can be taken, making presence less critical. Some schools may previously have assisted with this process by taking pictures on behalf of the child.

In Phuket the school used to be able to take the picture and take it along with passports and paperwork and do it for you. Now for some reason they are insisting that the child comes along too.

yes because kids at school do that sort of thing regularly

Because in case the applicant submits a photo-shopped picture to Immigration, now the actual applicant must be present preventing fraud or abuse..

cant say for all offices but up until about a month or so ago the Phuket office didn’t. Now for some reason they do.

All offices require the person to be present ;-)

my point was that they never had to. Why take a kid out of school when there was no need to. Rules here change every 10 minutes so you just have to adapt.

Now they can’t. You need to take your child out of school and go there with them. Can’t understand why it’s changed but like anything here you go with the flow.

Not sure where that came from. They took a picture of the child, took it with them to immigration and sorted out the extension of stay.

Krabi makes a digital picture, so it would be nice if your daughter is there.

Probably depends where you are. In Phuket they’ve reintroduced the need for the child to go.

I don’t know the rules for Krabi. Maybe give them a ring in the morning and ask.
