Can I Renew My Daughter's ED Visa on Overstay or Convert It to a Non-O Visa While in Thailand?

Hi everyone

I am in a bit of a pickle

My daughter has been on an ED visa for the last 2 years but there was a miscalculation and her visa expires on the 11 March and the school has not applied for the documents from the ministry of education yet which will take 3-4 weeks.

I really do not want her to have to leave the country at the moment to apply for a new one. She has 2 broken arms and she is not very strong.

Would she be able to renew her ED visa on an overstay? Or can I convert the ED visa to a Non-O visa in country?

Any advise would be appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user seeks advice on whether their daughter can renew her ED visa while overstaying or convert it to a Non-O visa within Thailand, considering she is injured. Responses suggest that a medical extension based on her condition is possible, but she cannot extend while on overstay. The recommendation is to get a doctor's letter to request a medical extension from immigration, which may allow time for school documentation to be processed.

I agree with the other posters. BEFORE your daughter runs on overstay go to the immigration office and get an extension based on medical reasons. Hopefully that will buy enough time for the school to get the documents so you can get the ED visa extension after that,

Good Luck

Get the medical extension ASAP...NEED DOCTOR LETTER to Thai Immigration.

Then will have to figure out how to get daughter another Ed Visa.

Your daughter cannot apply extension when she is overstay. If she is on overstay, she needs to leave the country and return on visa exempt or whatever kind of visa to clear her overstay and being in Thailand legally, then can apply extension.

Not sure what you mean with renew a visa, it is never possible.

Or you apply for a new Extension of Stay at your local Immigration Office and I guess that went wrong with the dates.

Or you apply for a new Non Immigrant ED visa at a Thai Consulate.

Your daughter has two broken arms and is not very strong, no idea about health but you might get a letter from her doctor that she is not fit for travel and use that for a maximum of 90 days Extension of Stay based on medical reasons.

NO, when on overstay, you are illegal in the country. Not the best basis to get new Extension of Stay, an Officer might be lenient with a good reason and a few days overstay. I would not advice that to try out.
