Asking for a friend. She has a work permit and a non b but is changing job. Her school will cancel her work permit but her non b was applied for in lao and is valid until july 8th. She was told as soon as the permit is cancelled she has to go to lao again for a new visa but I was under the impression that that was only if non b is an extension of stay. Hers is not. Please can you clarify if she has to go or if she is okay until end of non b?

TLDR : Answer Summary
A user inquired about the visa status of a friend who holds a Non-B visa and is changing jobs in Thailand. The friend is concerned that once her current employer cancels her work permit, she may also need to leave the country to obtain a new visa. Responses clarified that as long as the Non-B visa is not employer-specific, she can remain in the country until the visa's expiration date, but she cannot use it for employment with the new employer without a new work permit.

If it's not company specific you should be able to get an extension of stay from it

Is her visa endorsed with the name of her current employer ? If it is, (they often are), yes can stay, but not use for new employer.

I have compared it to mine but it's just a stamp. No writing.

There is either a line of writing on it or there is a sticker with the name of the company on it above the visa.

Exactly, if there is a line of writing on it, chances are it is the employer.

How would she know? She says it isn't but how does she check. I know mine is because school did it and then it has the school name on the visa

I believe if she has a multi-entry she can also continue to exit and enter. If single entry, just until the date stamped in her passport.
