Can I stay in Thailand on a 90-day Non-B visa if I am no longer employed?

Apologies if this question has already been asked:

I currently have a 90 day non b visa, was due to work at a school but I’m not anymore.

For reference I have never had a work permit (it didn’t get to that stage) and I am not on any extensions of stay on the non b visa.

Do I need to leave and re-enter on a tourist visa, or can I stay for the duration of the 90 day non b visa?

Many thanks in advance!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user has a 90-day Non-B visa due to employment at a school, which they are no longer working for. They seek clarity on whether they can stay in Thailand until the visa expires or must leave and re-enter with a tourist visa. Responses confirm that the user can remain in Thailand until the visa's expiration date, as the visa cannot be canceled by the employer. There is confusion regarding immigration protocols and employer communications, but other users reassure that the initial visa remains valid unless the holder actively cancels it.

My ex boss just emailed to say she would be cancelling the visa tomorrow. I’m so confused.

My old teaching agency also emailed to say I would need to leave the country and re-enter or get an extension of 7 days.

your boss can't cancel anything. It's in YOUR passport and only YOU can cancel it.

Also a visa cannot be cancelled, only an extension can be cancelled.

she just kept messaging me and my old teaching agency, who then were contacting me too. I don’t understand how my agency agrees with the school’s understanding of my situation, as they are supposed to be experts and deal with teachers all the time.

she has messaged me again to inform me she will have my visa cancelled on Wednesday.

I understand nothing will happen to my passport as she does not have it etc, but when I leave Thailand could there be something that is flagged up when passing through immigration? Do they put anything on a computer system?
Brandon ************
@Chelsea ******
No, because you are on a visa. She can't cancel anything. Why are you even talking to her? Just block her and be done with her manipulation.

I didn’t enter Thailand on a non b, I applied through the school and with their ‘sponsorship’ when I was already in the country. But what I have in my passport is a non b stamp with 90 days allowance. No work permit or anything else. Am I still okay?
Brandon ************
@Chelsea ******
yes it's correct. It can't be cancelled. Not by your boss, not even by you if you wanted to.

let me double check with another mod who is an immigration volunteer. I think you're still fine but he will know for sure.

she messaged me today and said that immigration have told her I cannot stay with a non b visa as I quit my job

@Chelsea ******
like I said, you CANNOT cancel a visa. No one can. The visa was issued by the MFA not by immigration. She's just lying to you. Ignore her. She's trying to make your life miserable.

The initial 90 day non-B visa can't be cancelled. If you entered Thailand with that you can stay until the end of the entry stamp. Even immigration can't cancel this, they didn't even issue it.

I was just told by the agency that the school could inform immigration that I am not working for them?

They also said that the school would need the non b visa for a new employee so that’s why they would cancel mine.
Brandon ************
@Chelsea ******
None of that has any relevance. As I said a visa cannot be cancelled. So if you're still on the initial 90 day visa (not an extension) you don't have to do anything except leave before your entry stamp runs out.

okay thank you, she said she is going to speak to immigration tomorrow so hopefully that won’t get me in any trouble.

she can't get you in trouble. They're just blowing hot air

if I left Thailand to enter on a 30 day tourist visa, am I able to extend that if necessary?
Brandon ************
@Chelsea ******
there's no such thing as a 30 day tourist visa. If your passport qualifies for visa exempt you can get a 30 stamp when you enter Thailand and apply once for a 30 day extension.

Thank you so much! I’d been driving myself mad trying to find a definitive answer via Google.

Yep. Your boss just seems determined to show even more definitively why she'd be an awful, toxic person to work for, by outright lying to you like that and trying to menace you. She knows damn well that the initial visa cannot be cancelled, only the extension. If she says otherwise (that she honestly thought otherwise) I'll call her a liar to her face. Shes experienced in the field of employing foreigners, theres no way she doesnt know.

The only response she deserves is to be told to shut the fuck up & go play on a busy road.

Preferably a *Thai* road.

On the initial B visa you can stay until you’re stamped date from entry. There is not a requirement that dictates that you have to follow through with getting a work permit and extension. Stay until permitted and work out future options from there.
John **********
You can stay until the expiry date of the visa then you need to leave
Nigel *********
You can stay for the full 90 days.
