I hold a non b visa and work permit. If I changed jobs and moved province does that involve cancelling everything and starting the whole process again with new employer? (Or is there a sensible pragmatic way to do this).

TLDR : Answer Summary
When changing jobs and moving provinces in Thailand while holding a Non-B visa and work permit, it's necessary to cancel your old work permit and obtain a new one from your new employer. If you maintain your Non-B visa, you can use it while leaving the country every 90 days for visa validity. However, if you have an Extension of Stay, you will need to cancel that and apply for a new visa.

Yes. New school new employer means begin the entire process again

You have to cancel the work permit from the old employer and get a new work permit from your new employer. If you hold a Non Immigrant B visa and leave the country every 90 days for a new visa you can keep this, if you have an Extension of Stay from the Immigration Office and make 90 days reports than you have to cancel this and get a new visa.

In case you have non-b multiple, and if company name is noted on that visa, you can not use that visa with your new employer. Often happens with non-b multi from penang.
