What happens to my Non-B visa if my work permit is canceled or revoked in Thailand?

Hi,

I have some inquiries regarding my visa and work permit

I'm considering a new job

I'm curious about the situation if my work permit were to expire or if my employer were to revoke it after I left my current company. However, my Non-B visa is still valid and hasn't expired yet.

The main question is whether the cancellation of my work permit would automatically lead to the revocation of my Non-B visa, or if I simply need to apply for a new work permit through my new employer and extend my visa. (Without leaving the country)

I'm worried about the potential consequences once my work permit is canceled or revoked. Could you guy'z please clarify the process for obtaining a new work permit, and how much time I have before my Non-B visa expires?

Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring about the implications of a canceled work permit on their Non-B visa in Thailand, specifically whether the cancellation of the work permit would also revoke the Non-B visa. They are interested in understanding the process for obtaining a new work permit with a new employer without leaving the country, as their Non-B visa remains valid. Responses clarify that the work permit's cancellation affects the validity of the extension of stay associated with the visa, implying that while the Non-B visa may remain technically valid, the user can't work under it without a new work permit.

Cancelling/expiring your work permit means you are no longer meeting the requirements to be on the extension. The extension stamp itself is not automatically cancelled, but you are not eligible to use it even if within the date on the extension stamp.

The procedure and required timeline are totally up to your new employer and the local immigration office, also, how well your current employer would collaborate with your "transition" process.

Without all participants working together well, you cannot do it in-country easily.

Ok, do you truly have a VISA or an extension of stay ? If an extension, that is invalid once your work permit is cancelled, and then you would go and cancel your extension. If a VISA , they are normally annotated for a specific company, so while you could use it to stay in country, you could not use it for another company.

Yes, I do have an extension of stay, but I don't see any annotation specifying a particular company.

Once I've canceled my work permit / extension of stay, Is it possible to begin the process with a new company without having to leave the country?

the annotation would be on a VISA not extension, however the extension is also issued for a specific company too. You will have to leave the country once you cancel everything. Get a letter from you company stating your last day of employment (get it about 14 days in the future), then cancel work permit, then extension, but both those cancellations will be dated as per the letter, giving you a little time to sort yourself out.

Check your passport and tell us if you are on the initial 90 day which you got with the visa

OR

Do you have a stamp in the passport with the text: "Extension of Stay permitted up to xx/xx/xx

Two total different things wtih total different ways to handle if you stop working.
