During the DTV application, do you have to put the exact date you plan to enter Thailand?
Does that mean you'd practically have a flight booked in advance?

TLDR : Answer Summary
When applying for a DTV visa to Thailand, it's recommended to provide an intended entry date. While it's not mandatory to book a flight in advance, applicants should have a specific date in mind and research possible flights. If required to provide proof of travel, a refundable ticket can be a viable option.
When I applied I had a date in mind, but wasn't 100% sure I would be able to. so I gave them the date that I hoped to arrive. If they has asked for proof of flight I would have purchased the ticket and pushed hard to make that date or spent the extra money to buy refundable ticket.
As per recommendations, you should be applying in less than 3 months from the date of intended travel (ie date on the form).
The travel dates are tentative but mention flight details after researching something that you can actually book if the embassy asks for confirmed tickets.
