TLDR : Answer Summary
You can apply for a Thailand DTV visa in advance, but it's recommended to submit your application no earlier than 3 months before your planned arrival. Some commenters suggested that you could technically apply sooner by stating you have imminent travel plans, but it's important to follow official rules and regulations.

You have 5 years to use it anytime. Unlike UAE 5-year visa that you must use in the first 60 days.

Apply no earlier than 3 months before you intend to arrive.

why? Its a 5 year validity. Not 3 months as the SETV and METV

why? 🤦🏻🤦🏻🤦🏻 because that's what the official embassy website says. So, you'll need to deceive and tell them you're coming within 3 months. Not a good start for a visa.

😅 we are discussing DTV visa. Not tourist visa……And that's a generic infographic.

- DTV has a validity period of 5 years, you have 5 years to enter.

- Tourist Visas has 3 months validity, you have 3 months to enter.

It really isn't more complicated than that

No, I'm talking about DTV. The Embassy website literally says to do not ask a DTV if your intended entry is beyond 3 months in the future. As a matter of fact, you can see here people who wrote their applications were denied because they applied like in August or September for soft power courses starting in January.

Sure, then tell them you intend to travel within 3 months. Doesn't matter when you actually travel. The validity is still 5 years regardless. They wont cancel you visa if you don't enter once its issued.

Its very common to apply early with refundable tickets. You can without issue travel later. I didn't even provide (or asked for) tickets when I applied DTV.

Many Thai Embassies/Thai Consulates do have a disclaimer/notice to Not Submit an Application Too Early before planned/intended travel dates, regardless of the type and duration of the Thai E–Visa

"...

Do not apply for a visa earlier than 90 days before you arrive in Thailand. (The best time to apply for a visa is approximately 4 weeks before the departure date.)

...."

"...

VISA PROCESSING TIME: 5-7 WORKING DAYS (UP TO 14 WORKING DAYS DURING HIGH SEASON)

Applicants are recommended to apply for the visa in advance at least a minimum of 2 weeks but not later than 10 weeks before the expected date of arrival.

Do not apply for a visa earlier than 90 days before you arrive in Thailand. (The best time to apply for a visa is approximately 4 weeks before the departure date.)
