Do I need  to show a booked flight to Thailand when applying for DTV?

I'm planning to apply this week but my flight booking will not be for two months and I'm not sure when travel time will be or what country i will be in when I decide to travel to Thailand.

A friend who is checking that I have done all my paper work correctly mentioned that it was recommended that you submit your flight details and which is challenging as I have not booked my flight yet

Yes, if asked specific for in the e-visa portal, you can just give a travel itinerary and a potential flight number as for a Non O visa. You don’t need to upload any tickets and you’re not obligated to leave when planned after the visa is issued. An onward ticket will not influence the outcome of your DTV application.

there is no place for additional documents when you apply, you may be asked this as part of follow up documents.

as stated above that "recommendation" is so that you do not apply more than 3 months out

You can just upload a travel itinerary and perhaps a flight number if it’s asked for in the e-visa portal. No issues, the visa is valid for five years.
