I,an American and my husband, a Myanmar, want to leave Bangkok around Jan 10 to move to Mexico. He presently has a LA visa. Is it correct to say that he has to have his agency/Boss cancel his Visa so he can get an Exit Stamp and 7 days grace to leave. Or can we just leave without canceling the visa. We have no intention on ever returning. Thanks

TLDR : Answer Summary
An American and her Myanmar husband are planning to leave Bangkok for Mexico. The husband holds a LA visa and wants to know if it has to be canceled in order to get an exit stamp and a 7-day grace period before leaving. Responses suggest that while technically the visa can just auto-void on exit, not canceling it may lead to complications if he ever wants to return to Thailand as it may show as an overstayed visa. If they have no intention of returning, they can leave without cancellation, but it's prudent to check with his employer about the proper procedures.
Tommy N Matarese it is only a potential problem if he ever wants to return and apply for anything at an immigration office inside Thailand. They can see it as overstaying from the day he left because the visa wasn't cancelled. I know people that have been fined the maximum overstay fine of 20.000 baht before immigration would process a new visa/extension for them.
That said, the visa will get voided when leaving, and if you never plan to return to Thailand, then you don't need to do anything. Just leave.
If you might return one day, then do it right, and go cancel the wp and visa before leaving.
Ant W Tailor to move from Bangkok to Mexico? Why would Donald care? What does Bangkok/Mexico have to do with him? Are you retarded? Or just illiterate?
If left without canceling then he’s leaving with a “left” history, but nothing except that. It doesn’t really build any “bad” credit. Visa will be canceled automatically on his leave.
