Should I fly out to apply for a new visa or cancel my current visa before leaving Thailand?

Hi everyone, need help. I have a non-immigrant b visa stamp (wife has a dependency), with extension stamp in my passport. I will be changing employer and they advised me to leave the country to apply for a new visa. We have all the necessary paperwork and supposed to be flying to Penang tomorrow (14 Oct), to apply for a new visa then return to Bangkok to start applications for a new non-b and work permit.

I canceled my work permit yesterday but ran out of time to cancel my visa. Should I just fly out tomorrow or delay my flight and cancel it on Monday next week?

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is facing a dilemma about whether to fly to Penang to apply for a new visa after changing employers, despite not having canceled their current visa. Comments suggest that the extension should have been canceled prior to the flight, indicating potential for overstay fines. Advice includes proceeding with the trip while ensuring no use of a re-entry permit, and handling the visa cancellation upon returning to Thailand.

Yes, you need to cancel your and your wife's extensions. It had to be canceled as of 12 Oct, so anytime after that, you may or may not need to pay for an 'overstay' fine until the day you apply for cancellation after your extension was invalidated (by canceling your work permit).

You can go to apply for your new visa as planned, then go to the immigration office to cancel your old one as soon as you return to Thailand.

Or you can apply for cancellation on Monday before you leave.

If you leave tomorrow, just be sure you don't have a re-entry permit, or don't use a re-entry permit when you enter Thailand.
