Do I need to cancel my visa extension with immigration if I'm resigning and leaving Thailand?

Hello, I'm leaving the country tomorrow. Will a letter of resignation from my employer do rather than going to immigration to cancel my extension? I don't want to have a problem when I come back some time in the next few years.

Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is inquiring whether a resignation letter from their employer would suffice instead of canceling their extension with immigration before leaving Thailand. They are concerned about potential issues when returning to the country in the future.

If flying out you should be fine. Land borders often ask for a letter from your employer.

HR is correct, you can do at Immigration, apply for new extension if you do not meet any requirement it will be denied and you get the 7 days to leave the country stamp for 1.900 Thb or take the letter and leave the country tomorrow as planned and by leaving the Extension will get invalid.

cheers. I filled out the form stating I'm finishing work tomorrow. But HR insists I need a stamp in my passport to cancel the extension.

If the Extension of Stay is based on Working the Extension becomes invalid the same day you stop working. You have to report the SAME day at Immigration or as Lloyd said leave the country. Every day you stay longer, you are in overstay of the visa rules.

Hi Lloyd. A friend of mine left Country and then came back a year or two later but was slammed with a 20,000 over stay fine. I have the resignation later, should I show it when leaving or keep it for whenever I come back. Cheers.
