Do I need to cancel my extension of stay in Thailand in person before leaving?

Hi everyone. I am sorry if this question has been asked before. I have been living in Thailand since 2020, first with and Education Visa and then with extensions of stay based on marriage to a Thai national. Now I am on my second extension and with my wife we will be leaving Thailand in June. Does my extension need to be cancelled in person, or it will be automatically cancelled when I exit Thailand?

Since we are returning to Thailand after March 2023 (the expiration date of my extension), getting a re-entry permit is not an option for me. In this case, can I come as a tourist and go from visa exemption (I hold a Chilean passport) to an extension of stay based on marriage (or should I get the extension based on visiting family first to be able to do this)? I know I can also apply for a visa based on marriage in a Thai Consulate abroad. Does it need to be the Thai Consulate in my country of origin (Chile), or can it be in any country? Since this visa is granted, is there a standard period of time within which I must enter Thailand? And finally, is there a money requirement for this kind of visa (as there is to apply for the extension of stay based on marriage within Thailand)? I hope I made myself clear. Thanks in advance :)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user asks if they need to cancel their current extension of stay in person before leaving Thailand, as they are married to a Thai national. They have questions about returning to Thailand as a tourist and transitioning from visa exemption to an extension of stay based on marriage. The community provided answers regarding automatic cancellation of the extension upon exit, the possibility of entering as a tourist, and applying for a marriage visa at any Thai consulate abroad, along with queries about entry timelines and financial requirements.

You asked many questions...

Hi everyone. I am sorry if this question has been asked before. I have been living in Thailand since 2020, first with and Education Visa and then with extensions of stay based on marriage to a Thai national. Now I am on my second extension and with my wife we will be leaving Thailand in June.

***Does my extension need to be cancelled in person, or it will be automatically cancelled when I exit Thailand?

***It will cancel on departing Thailand.

Since we are returning to Thailand after March 2023 (the expiration date of my extension), getting a re-entry permit is not an option for me.

***In this case, can I come as a tourist and go from visa exemption (I hold a Chilean passport) to an extension of stay based on marriage

***YES you can enter as described.

***(or should I get the extension based on visiting family first to be able to do this)?

***That's an option when your Visa exempt or tourist visa ends...

I know I can also apply for a visa based on marriage in a Thai Consulate abroad.

***Does it need to be the Thai Consulate in my country of origin (Chile), or can it be in any country?

***Ask the Thai Consulate or Embassy in the country you are in ..

***Since this visa is granted, is there a standard period of time within which I must enter Thailand?

***Normally to be used within 3 months of its issue date.

But possibly up to One year if a Non O multi-entry Visa

**"And finally, is there a money requirement for this kind of visa (as there is to apply for the extension of stay based on marriage within Thailand)?

***Ask the Thai Embassy or Consulate where you are applying for the Visa.

Normally not...but is required in Thailand when you seek the Non O as Married to Thai.

I hope I made myself clear. Thanks in advance :)
