Do I need my old job to cancel my visa before applying for a new Non-B visa in Laos?

Good morning. I have a new job and will travel to Laos this weekend to get a new Non-B visa. My current visa extension expires this Monday, June 30th, which is the same day that I'll leave Thailand and enter Laos. My question is, should my old work cancel the visa before I travel? I understand there is a cancellation stamp that I might need to have, before applying for the new visa. Thanks.

TLDR : Answer Summary
When traveling to Laos to obtain a new Non-B visa, it's crucial to address the cancellation of your current visa extension. While you may not need the cancellation stamp for your visa application in Laos, you must have your extension canceled before applying for a new one upon your return to Thailand. Failure to do so may result in fines and complications with future visa extensions.

You won't need the cancellation stamp to GET the visa via the online system in Lao, or enter thailand, BUT you will have to have that extension cancelled or you won't be able to get a new extension on this Non-B you're comin' back into the country on until you do <- and if you don't do it before you go you will be fined when you do go to cancel it

I would say YOU need to go get the extension cancelled from the immigration office that issued it, then leave the country and go apply for the new Non-B visa in Lao

sincerely good luck with the visa run. Vientiane is pretty fast nowadays for regular Non-Imm visas (Non-B, Non-O, Non-ED)

Once you apply online, then go to the consulate in person to pay it should only be a couple business days until you're approved

thanks again. I'm going with a visa run company, so they will take care of it for me. Don't want to risk waiting 10 days.
