Thanks for adding me to the group. My husband has a non immigrant B visa/extension of stay and work permit which expires 30th September. I have a non immigrant O. He will finish his work contract on 30th September. He will not do any contract work until next year. I'm just checking as I am receiving conflicting advice. Do we need to leave Thailand and re-enter to get 30 days visa free after the 30th? We will then extend to another 30 days, go home in December (South Africa) and return in January. TIA (photo is from my passport)

TLDR : Answer Summary
The post discusses visa conditions for an expatriate couple in Thailand: the husband's Non-Immigrant B visa and work permit set to expire on September 30th, and the wife's Non-Immigrant O visa. The inquiry is about the requirements for leaving and re-entering Thailand to gain an additional 30-day visa after the expiration, amidst conflicting information. A response emphasizes the need for the husband to cancel his work permit and visa extension before leaving the country to avoid future complications.
About a week before his contract is up he needs to go cancel the work permit and the extension with documents from his company. You need to go with him and get your extension canceled too at the same time.
I can see that he uses Cham Churi Square's One Stop Service Center and what they usually do there is cancel your current extension and give you a new stamp until the old extension expired OR they can actually give you a new stamp that is up to 21 days past that old expiration date. BUT what ever they do you need to GO cancel the extension BEFORE you leave the country. Just stamping out at the end of it will NOT cancel it and it will cause problems later on down the road.
yep, BUT keep in mind S/A passport holders can't bounce out and back in a all the land borders (you can't use Phu Nam Ron border with burma in Kanchanaburi) and some borders IF you bounce out you must stay out 24 hours before you get back in. Choose where you're bouncing carefully...
thank you for your explanation. I assume after doing this we exit and re-enter Thailand on 30 days visa free and then extend for 30 days? When we return next year we will do the whole work/extension thing again. Your advice is much appreciated ๐
