Do I need to visit immigration before July 13 for my Non-O visa extension due to Covid-19 amnesty?

Jul 4, 2020
I have a non o multiple entry visa issued in NYC. US passport holder. I have a work permit. My visa expires Jan 2021, my stamp is July 13. My last extension (not sure if this is the correct term) was done at the immigration office in Sriracha since I was unable to leave the country due to Covid19. So my stamp is July 13 but do I fall under the amnesty category? I’m trying to figure out if I need to go to immigration before July 13 or if I can go closer to the 31st. Any advice on how to proceed is appreciated.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether to approach immigration for a visa extension before their current Non-O multiple entry visa expires on July 13, 2020, particularly in the context of the Covid-19 amnesty that extends deadlines until July 31, 2020. Multiple comments suggest applying as early as possible to avoid last-minute crowds at immigration offices and ensure compliance with visa rules. Some users recommend confirming with the local immigration office for specific guidance.

said. I would go before July 13, and try to get the extension like normal. If you can get it - great you don't have to mess around with Immigration at/around July 31 (the place will be a freaking mad house). I would guess if you ask nicely enough they'll do it for you. Explain you can't take time from work, or its a long travel.

Best check in with your Immigration office. If you do not need an extension or you can't get one prior to July 31...Then let that decision be on the I/O... You will have a record of your visit either way...

Do your extension before amnesty expires. Even if your visa expires before then , the amnesty will fill the gap. If you dont, you'll be stuffed after 31 july. Amnesty will cover you between visa expiry and amnesty end and you can still get extension before it.

How do I know this you ask?

Because I've done it myself.

if the amnesty fills the gap

And the 60-day (family lets say) extension is issued on the day u apply (NOT backdated)

Then it would make sense to wait as much as possible... wouldn't it?

That way u use amnesty and ur 60 days start towards the end of July

And that puts u closer to an eventual border bounce (he has multi entry still valid for many months)

If (IF) amnesty gets extended... he would have burned his 60 days ahead

Thoughts? (As im on the same boat)

. No one knows yet if it will be extended yet, even the govt. But they would give more than a days notice as they did the last times.

Better to be safe than sorry. Do the right thing and they will note it. Trust me, they make life harder for those that bend the rules when you apply. This amnesty has drained them of millions of baht in revenue. They plan to make it up😉

sure.

The thing for many is that "doing the right thing" is not a black/white matter.

Especially cuz THEIR rules are not clear...

So u cant expect people to understand 》act accordingly if the rules u put out are vage and contradictory.

He will extend.

So will i.

But doing it TODAY is starting the countdown of those 60 days.

(Yes... we need a longterm solution... yes... but surely u know that everything takes time in TH... not all employers are organized .. not all HR Dep have foreigners.... for many its the first time they do anything foreigner related)

All the speculation is generated by the Gov not setting clear rules.

If i do my extension on WED... and friday they extend the amnesty another month... i basically burned my extension for nothing

Unfortunately having to gamble our choices is a product of their own lack of clarity and planning

. Yeah. But theres always a risk it turns to shit and you are denied for some reason. Every guy and his dog will leave it to the last minute. My advice is play it safe and do itat least a week before amnesty ends. Tou only get one 60 day extension per visa so you better plan the next step after that too.

it also depends what office u go to...

Some people talk like Chaengwattana is the only office in the country

(It sure is the worst in terms of queues, with Chiang coming in 2nd i believe)

I am in Samut Prakarn and its "ok". Not pleasant (is any?)... but i never had to go at 5am or those horror stories i hear from others

The most i ever queued (in years of NonBs, extensions, NonOs, extensions, etc) was 2hrs i think

what announcement? I know you’ve been spending a lot of time on forums telling people you think there will be an extension to the amnesty (or whatever). But I’m merely suggesting to the OP that if he can do before that, it makes sense to do so. Is that ok with you?

what announcement. The inevitable decision from

Thai Cabinet about the way forward after this amnesty period. If anyone at all wishes to go ahead and pay for extension they may not be at all necessary. We all have to make that decision 🤷‍♂️
