Hello,

My 12-month Non-Immigrant O visa expires July 2nd. Any suggestions about renewal or visa / border run? Should I do something now, or wait till closer to the time the amnesty ends July 31st?

Thanks for any help.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on renewing their 12-month Non-Immigrant O visa, which expires on July 2nd, and whether to act now or wait until the amnesty ends on July 31st. Community comments suggest different options such as applying for an extension based on the reason for the visa, utilizing the current amnesty, or visiting the Immigration Office for specific guidance. There is uncertainty about post-amnesty rules, but it’s recommended to not wait until the last minute to sort out the extension.

Okay, SO you HAD a valid 90 day stamp that expired May 20, which means you went automatically on amnesty and this post I already posted to you is the correct answer

hello, I’ll be going Phayao immigration too. Did they ask for any proof (bank letter, bank book, etc) of financial status?
Terry **********
@Piers **********
as
@Tod ********
says no funds needed for my 60 day extension to visit Thai family...but needed for my 1 years extension
Terry **********
@Piers **********
yes they did i had to take a letter from my bank and bank statements going back at least 2 months

@Terry *********
thanks for that. Looks like I’m applying for a 60 day extension. Am I right in assuming this would be from the end of the amnesty period?
Terry **********
@Piers **********
if i was you i would not wait till the end of the amnesty period and go ahead with your 60 day extension they will tell you whats needed ie documents ect they are pretty good and put you in the picture what you actually need for your extensions ok you can wait till the amnesty period stops nobody knows when that will end

I’m planning to go on Monday. Try for the 60 day extension. See what happens. I think I know most of the documents I need. I really need a 3 month extension, or a 2 month one from July 31, as I can’t back to my job till the end of September, earliest.

@Piers **********
why not just take the amnesty until closer to the July 31 end date THEN apply for the 60 day extension? There's no gun to your head to apply for a the extension IF you're covered on amnesty

just concerned about queues

@Piers **********
, go the week BEFORE the last day, don't be a day counter and wait until the 31st.
Terry **********
@Piers **********
speak with them on monday and they will advise your best option they are pretty good
Terry **********
@Piers **********
understood but if your visa expires on the 2nd of july your 60 days extension starts from then which will bring you up until early September and then and then apply for your yearly before you go back to work at the end of september and before you go get a re entry permit and your extension is still valid when you come back
Tod *********
@Piers **********
he was applying for a year extension so they DID require proof of funds. BUT if you're applying for a 60 day visit family extension they do not require any proof of funds

So your VISA sticker expires on July 2 ?

What is the expiration date of your current entry stamp? <- the rectangular stamp they gave you when you stamped IN to the country?
Piers ***********

@Tod ********
oh wait, looking at the wrong one: may 20
Tod *********
@Piers **********
can't look at the stamp they put on your TM6 departure card as they don't stamp how long you can stay on that one :O :P
Piers ***********

@Tod ********
no expiration mentioned

@Tod ********
sorry—urgent call of nature. The entry stamp is for February 21 this year
Tod *********
@Piers **********
, so you got a 90 day entry stamp when you entered thailand on Feb 21st this year right? that means you should have been stamped in until May 20

Alright, IF you have a year-long, multi-entry Non-O visa <- the kind where you bounce out and back to get a new 90 day entry stamp and your stamp is expiring you will automatically go on amnesty until the 31st of July. and before you ask the answer is NO, no one knows what will happen when that amnesty ends because the government has not written what happens when it ends yet.

IF they can get the borders open AND your VISA (the sticker in your passport) is still valid (and you meet any possible new entry requirements) you can bounce out and back to get a new 90 day stamp.

OR

You can go to the imigration office and get the hand out that lists the requirements to get an in country yearly extension of stay based on the reason you got your Non-O visa (retirement, marriage to a thai, etc) Meet the financial requirements, turn in the documentation and get a year extension.

OR

If you're married to a thai or have half thai children here you could also apply for a 60 day visit thai family at the immigration office as well, and that does not require proof of funds.

There must be reason why you got this Non Immigrant O visa, visit the Immigration Office and apply for a 1 year Extension of Stay based on the same reason.
Anne *******
@Robert ******
, must this reason been written on the visa.? My one says only non imm. O, multible. Nothing else.
Tod *********
@Anne ******
and you were issued that visa for what of the above reasons I listed for Piers in the post right above this?
Anne *******
@Tod ********
, non of this reasons.
Robert *******
@Anne ******
To get a visa, you visit a Thai Embassy or if you're in Thailand the Thai Immigration.

You have to inform on what bases you thing you want to get a visa, the Non Immigrant O visa, where the O stands for Other can be issued for many reasons.

If you have any questions about your situation, please make your own topic.
Anne *******
@Robert ******
, got it.

I got mine from an embassy providing one-year visas as an option. Presumably, the option applies here too?
Tod *********
@Piers **********
no Robert means what was the REASON you were granted a Non-O visa; retirement, marriage, volunteering, raising children, etc.
