Hi ! I received my new passport recently and I am flying to Kuala Lumpur next week for a few days. At the moment my non-B is in my old passport. I am flying to KL for a quick holiday and to get a new tourist visa. I have to fly out with my old passport to cancel my non-B. Do you think I will be able to enter on my new passport without having any problems as I will have a brand new tourist visa? Someone already recommended that I fly out and in on my old passport and once I'm back I just get my tourist visa transferred which is must easier than getting my Non-B transferred? Whats the best option here :-) Thanks in advance

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user is seeking advice on whether they can enter Thailand with a new passport while their non-B visa is in their old passport, as they plan to obtain a new tourist visa during their travel. Responses indicate that there are complexities in transferring visas, and it's suggested to potentially use both passports during their exit and entry to Thailand. Additionally, there are clarifications on the difference between a non-B visa and extensions of stay.

Don't they cancel the old passport when they issue a new one?

My agent is handling all this and he knows that I am flying out Tuesday morning. He recommended this way its the easiest and cheapest. Which means he will cancel everything on his side Tuesday to save me the hassle. The only thing he said his not sure is if I can leave with my old passport and enter with my new passport (With a new tourist visa)

no worries. The reason why I have 2 passports is that my new one was not finished before my return flight to Bangkok and my old 1 is still valid for a full year. I didnt collect my new passport it was sent to me from back home which was an effort to authorize that, hence why its not cancelled yet. I just spoke to my embassy here and they said both are valid. They told me as my visa is still in my old one, and its valid, its fine using that and when I have a new visa when I return next week I go to immigration, transfer my new visa to my new passport and then go embassy and cancel my old passport. There is a difference between I dont want to and cant make it as I was advised to only fly out Tuesday without doing any of this. Thanks for the help though :-)

So you can not make it into Immigration in the next few days to official cancel your Extension Of Stay, you did not hand in your old passport after getting a new one because your travel plans. I guess you have to think by yourself what responsibilities you have carrying a passport and Visa/Extension of Stay. It is not just I don't want to make time to handle these responsibilities and I can do what ever I like. Sorry if this is a little rude.

Your Government is cancelling your passport as soon a new one is given out.

I applied for my old passport when I was back home for a quick holiday and it took longer than expected. So I left on my old passport with no problems at all. My passport is only experiencing in 12 months but i will be traveling for a while and some countries/most countries require 6 months for a visa

Strange question: If you have a new passport is your old passport not cancelled?

Unfortunately I cant make the immigration offices before I leave. So that leaves me with leaving Tuesday morning with my old passport and re entering with my old passport (As my extension of stay is till Nov 2017) which was the plan in the beginning then going to immigration offices to transfer my new tourist visa to my new passport then from there I can use my new passport. Does that sound right ? Thanks for the help so far!

he can't cancel ANYTHING on his side if you have your old passport with you when you fly out. You have to take it to the immigration office to cancel the current extension. It can't be canceled without the passport.

In theory because you are on an extension of stay you should take BOTH passports to the immigration office, get your current permission to stay extension stamp transferred into the new passport,

Then right after that cancel the extension and buy the 7 day "get outta dodge" stamp. That lets you leave only by using your new passport..
Tod *********
Once you cancel your work permit, and your current extension of stay, you'd have to buy a 7 day 'extension denied" stamp for 1900baht so you don't have to exit the country the day you cancel your extension.
Tod *********
Okay so you're on an "extension of stay" NOT the original entry from the non-B visa right?
Tod *********
Only that first picture is a non-B visa (and it was only good for 90 days). The other picture is of extensions of stays based on employment..

I had this with my work permit every time they needed to renew my permit/visa/extension
Tod *********
Those are yearly extensions of stays NOT visas ;)

@Marcel ********
, I'd betting you don't have a Non-B VISA, you have an extension of stay that you apply for at the immigration office every year..

I have had my non- B for 2 years with an actual work permit as well

Is the NON=B still valid, is it a Multiple Entry. Changing to Tourist visa means you are NOT valid to wor in Thailand.
Robert *******
?? Only the Extension of Stay can be cancelled not a Visa. If you have the 7 Days Extension of Stay you must leave before the day stated and apply for a NEW visa. You can apply with you new passport for a Tourist Visa. Bring your old passport just in case they want to see the exit/entry stamps
