I have just received a new UK passport and am currently on a standard one month visa on arrival (which is stamped in my old passport). Do I need to transfer this visa to a new passport before leaving the country or can I just take both passports on a visa run and get the new visa stamped in the new passport? Thanks in advance.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user inquired about the necessity of transferring their 30-day visa exempt entry stamp (in their old UK passport) to their new UK passport before leaving Thailand. Comments indicate that it is generally acceptable to present both passports at exit. However, it is also advised to consider transferring the entry stamp to the new passport if seeking an extension or a new tourist visa from Laos.
From Bangkok it's way better to fly to Udon Thani on an early morning flight and take the mini van at the airport to the border in Nong Khai, cross into Lao and get to the consulate. You can do it in plenty of time to get there before they close.
The next afternoon you can get your passport, get back to the border, cross into thailand and go back to the Udon Airport in time to catch an early evening flight.
Thanks Tod. I'm just looking at the option of getting a tourist visa from Laos instead. I've read that if you fly it's possible to get that done in a single day...any ideas?
Sadly you read wrong :/ To get a single entry tourist visa from the thai consulate in Lao takes a minimum of two days. You turn in your application & passport one morning before 11:30 and you pick up your passport with the new tourist visa in it after 1:30 the following afternoon.
If you're going to get a 30 day extension at the immigration office on the current 30 day visa exempt entry you have you might as well get the stamp transferred and get the extension in your new passport though.
