Is a letter from the US Embassy needed to transfer my Non-O visa stamp to a new passport in Thailand?

Hi, I just got a new passport, but I didn’t get a “letter from the embassy requesting cooperation” to transfer the visa stamp into my new passport. Is this really necessary? If so, does that mean I have to go back to the US Embassy to request that letter?

Any advice would be helpful, or if anyone has any experience getting this letter from the US Embassy that would be very helpful. Thank you. It’s a one year Non O visa if that makes any difference.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The conversation discusses the process of transferring a Non-O visa stamp to a new passport after obtaining a new passport. The general consensus among commenters is that a letter from the US Embassy requesting cooperation is no longer needed, as most immigration offices are aware of this policy change. Users mention they successfully transferred their visa stamps by bringing both old and new passports along with any supporting documents, such as a receipt for the new passport. Additionally, some suggested bringing a specific letter from the US Embassy confirming that such letters are not issued anymore as a precaution. Lastly, it is highlighted that the transfer must be done at the immigration office that issued the original visa.

I got my non-o extension in Koh Phangan last March, but I am in Bangkok for a few months because we just had a baby. Is it so important that I go to Koh Phangan to transfer my visa to new passport or will it be possible in Bangkok?

, You can apply for transfer stamps only at the immigration office that issued your extensions. In your case, you have to go to Koh Phangan office to transfer stamps.

No problem...I didn't have one either last October 😉

okay, SO many immigrations offices wanted PROOF that the US Embassy ACS division wasn't issuing the "xxx got a new passport please move the stamps" letter that they actually came UP with a letter saying they don't issue the letter anymore 😮

PRINT this letter out and take it with BOTH passports when you go to get the extension/re-entry stamps moved to the new passport

This is the letter saying they don't issue a letter 😛 😉

I did it earlier this year. US Embassy not issuing the letter anymore. I took my old and new passport to the Koh Samui Immigration and they transferred the stamp. Had to fill out a document or two.

No need to get one, as most immigration offices are aware that US embassy doesn't issue that letter any more. You just go to apply for transferring stamps with both your new and old passport.

If you have a receipt of your new passport application/issuance, you can bring it just in case. There was a report someone asked for a receipt instead at some office even though the immigration office was aware of no letter from his embassy.

I don't think you have to be worried even if not.
