Hey everyone, just landed in Bangkok with a 30 day visa exemption but have been following the chats on here for a few months. Just a few questions:

1. Do I need to report where I'm staying to immigration?(staying with friends, so no hotel - never did this before when AirBnBing but I didn't even know about it!)

2. If I want to get the 30 day extension, when is the earliest that I can apply for it?

TIA!

TLDR : Answer Summary
The user, having just arrived in Bangkok on a 30-day visa exemption, seeks clarification on the necessity of reporting their accommodation to immigration and the process for extending their visa. Community responses indicate that reporting is not strictly enforced in Bangkok; however, it's the responsibility of the property owner to report. Users suggest that extensions can be applied for anytime during the initial 30 days, ideally when less than 45 days remain before the current visa expires.

you aren't going to have ANY problem not filing a TM.30 in Bangkok, because that immigration office doesn't care. And you can file for an extension at the bangkok immigration office when you have 45 days or less left on your current stamp, meaning you can do it as soon as you land on a 30 day visa exempt entry if you wanted to .

Remember they are closed tomorrow

You can get the 30 day extension anytime, 1900 baht at any immigration office.

If you dont report where you stay as a tourist you wont be fined or faced any consequences. Its the owner of the place you are staying responsibility. They will be fined if caught.

I recommend reporting if you are staying longer term other wise its fine.

I live in phuket. Just had a chat with immigration on Tuesday about this.

I rent a house and when my friends come to Thailand and stay in my rental house, I go Immigration and make the report, it is very easy to do. So again: this report has nothing to do on which kind of Visa or Visa Exempt you entered Thailand and has to be done within 24 hours of your arrival. I live in the real world and I read many reports of people getting fined for not reporting. It depends also on the enforcement of your local Immigration Office, so my advice is visit your local Immigration Office and ask.

Im not saying you are wrong so just calm down with quoeting the law.

What im saying was longer term people will more than likely have to do it themselves cuz No land lord will go and do that but for tourists, a hotel will already have a system in place so immigration can keep track of the reporting. ( why am i fucking repeating myself here?)

Do you think an average tourists know to report when they come to thailand? Live in the real world a lil, shall we? Lets say someone is here to visit a friend and this friend is renting from someone else. How complicated would it be to report and do you think the landlord would even care to go to the immigration?

But never mind what i said cuz if the law is there everyone must be doing it.

It has NOTHING to do wih your visa. It has to do with the place you stay. According section 37 of the Immigration Act: The land owner, land lord, house master or manager of hotel/guesthouse has to report a foreigner within 24 hours at Immigration.

Just people who are in other types of visa. Not tourist visa. cuz if you are a tourist, its the hotel responsibility to report.

I see, so I must read it as: If you dont report in Phuket (instead of where you stay) and I recommend reporting if you are staying longer term other wise its fine, if you live in Phuket. BTW what is a longer term?

@Robert ******
yes thats why i mentioned phuket and thats what they said to me.

Please scroll down on this page and read all those reports of tourist getting fined 1.600 Thb for not reporting at different Immigration Offices like Chang Mai and Jomtien as examples. Not every office works like the Phuket Office.

Pattaya and Phuket are going hardcore on it

BKK - I have never needed 'report' residence. Pattaya requires it -- will fine you if you don't.

It’s a Thailand requirement vs each individual providence. Also, it’s the housemasters requirement, not the foreigner but if the foreigner looks to extend then it becomes the foreigners problem.

If you're in BKK you should be fine.. I have never extended a 30 visa exception, but I have extended several standard Tourist Visas -- BKK office is pretty easy going - but popular with long lines.

Enjoy Thailand.

That’s what I am worried about, don’t want to get fined or have any issues with getting extensions, etc

Reports depend on Immigration Office in the area where you stay. Also to apply for Extension is different at some offices, so where do you stay?
