I put my current address in Isan on my arrival card.

Do I need to do anything if my wife and I wish to go and spent a few weeks in Phuket?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are traveling from Isan to Phuket, you generally do not need to take any special action related to your arrival card. However, according to TM30 rules, when you leave your registered address for 24 hours or more, you need to inform your nearest immigration office of your return within 24 hours after coming back. While hotels in Phuket may report your check-in to immigration, the responsibility to ensure the TM30 reporting is done correctly typically falls on you, making it crucial to inform the property owner where you are registered upon your return to avoid fines.

There's no link between arrival card and TM30 (reporting of address), so there's no special procedure

Annika Almersson So when you arrive you put the address on the arrival card and you go down to the immigration and do it as well? Unless your hotel or landlord do it?

Read the official rules on the Thai immigration web site. I avoided the owner needing to pay a fine by staying in hotel one night. Immigration was clear it is not my responsibility buy the owner. The owner is responsible, If you have a visa that is more than 90days then yes there is a different rule that requires the visa holder to register. They just check the data base to see if your name is there. New toys. All movements in and out of the country are logged on the database. I was shown the data record.

you have to be registered within 24 hours of your arrival. It really only needs to be done once per visa or 90 days

It only becomes an issue you you wish to extend your stay or you are subject to a 90 day reporting rule. It is not well managed. I applied for a residency certificate but that information was not transferred to the Immigration database. When I went to apply fr an extended visa they said I had to be registered and asked that owner needs to fill in the TM 30 form or pay a fine of 1600THB. As me lease expired I booked into a hotel and the hotel registered me. Went back the next day all ok. No fine, (Which is payable by the owner)

Ubon sais no need too. But I prefer too as with every new head comes a new interpretation of the Rules and one day you could find you've been charged 500 Baht per Day for a very long time haha.

the renter is not find. They try to get you to pay the fine as you can not proceed whilst the fine is outstanding. You are not liable for a fine that is the owners resonsibility. But you can not proceed until the fine is paid.

Yes. But within 24 hours of arriving back to your Registered Address the owner of the property where you are registered must inform Immigration of your return. However, it generally falls on the Foreignor to do. Fine is 500 Baht per Day for not reporting your return to the registered address

I am driving to Phuket. It will take me a couple or more days to get there.

Once in Phuket, doesn’t the hotel take a copy of my I/D and tells Immigration?

Every time you leave your registered address for 24 hours or more you have to go to your nearest immigration centre and confirm your address (TM30) within 24 hours of your return back to your registered address.
