Hello. Regarding notification of residence when making internal trip to Bangkok and staying in hotels.

SITUATION

Have correct extension of stay and multiple RE-entry permit. Living in own condo and registered address in correct way.

QUESTION

If I travel to Bangkok for a weekend and stay in hotels do I have to waste time going back to Immigration and reregistering my place of residence before the original 90 days are due when I return?

TLDR : Answer Summary
If you are traveling within Thailand, such as a weekend trip to Bangkok, you do not need to re-register your residence with Immigration by filing a new TM.30 form. The requirement to update your residence notification only applies when you return from overseas. However, there might be variations depending on the local immigration office's interpretations of the rules.

and yet again another TM.30 thread and the different ways the different immigration offices interpret how you need to do it.

I think about all you can do is listed in this very detailed post by

Sorry I am going by what I was told by an immigration officer when I filed my TM.30 with them in Bangkok. She said EVERY office knows it's ONLY when you come back from out of the country and have a new TM.6 arrival/departure card number and entry date that you need to "update" or "re-file" a TM.30.

I agree with Robert, Depending on where you live do what ever THAT immigration office wants.

So
@Mar***
, where do you live in the 513K square kilometers that makes up thailand?

THIS is aggravating. Big Joke should lay down consistency across offices.

But, I guess this "local control" extends to other things - like banking. Who knew BKK bank CNX was different from BKK bank BKK! (150bht difference!)

I was told by an Immigration Officer once: You have to know the rules if you want to stay here. So if you want to stay at private addresses inside Thailand you should do some more research than only the cheapest place and find out the Immgration rules in that area.

that being said, how the hell are we supposed to know if we drove up to Phuket? Or is it really more of a problem for the landlord? Shouldnt' matter UNLESS we need to do our 90d check in at Phuket, correct?

+1 was told same AS WELL AS the fact that "some tourist districts like Phuket are stricter." Considering that I'm never going back to that waste of space place, wasn't important for me.

And if you tell us where your address is registered it might help. F.E. If you live in Phuket, yes you must do.

I live in Chiang Ria - if I leave Chiang Ria PROVINCE and stay in a hotel, (which hotel report your stay to Immigration, as they are supposed to), then I need to report to Chiang Ria Immigration when I return home. I was warned the first time I went to do my 90 day reporting because I had been to Bangkok and had not reported to Immigration when I returned to Chiang Ria, Since then, I have met a couple who stayed in Chiang Mia (for one night only) and didn't report when they returned to Chiang Ria and where fined, and last time I was in Immigration, there was a foreigner arguing because he went away at Christmas time and hadn't reported when he returned and was being fined. The rule seems to be that you can travel within your province of registration with no problem, but should report having been away and have returned. It is Thailand, and some Immigration offices are stricter than others......

By law you have to register every time you stay at a different address within 24 hours. At the moment as known only Phuket enforce this, Pattaya seems to change, sometimes they do, sometimes not. Most offices allow you to travel inside Thailand and only report when being abroad to update the new TM 6 Departure card.

Thanks. The reason for the question is in order to comply. Out of interest then ... it’s supposed to be the law everywhere but only Phuket enforce it? Or is it a Phuket rule only.
Robert *******
The enforcement of this registration. Some offices care less, others are hard core, like Phuket.

OK. Now I’m confused. Tod said no but you’re confirming that if I live in Phuket it’s yes?

I live in Phuket, but why the difference?

NO, you do NOT do a new TM.30 when traveling INSIDE the country. You ONLY update OR re-file one when you return from overseas.
