TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30 form does not need to be filed every 90 days. Instead, it should be submitted every time you change your place of residence, such as staying overnight at a hotel, or anytime you return to Thailand from abroad. The TM30 reporting is distinct from the 90-day reporting (TM47), and the responsibility typically lies with either your landlord or the hotel to report your stay within 24 hours.

My TM 30 was 4 or 5 years old and the local immigration told my wife to get a new one during a visa renewal. I had not left the country only traveled within Thailand.

I get my Thai partner to book hotel rooms and most of the time I'm never asked for ID therefore saving the inconvenience of having to go to immigration to do a TM30 every time we go traveling which is quite often...I also thinks this depends on your immigration office....last time I went they told me I didn't need to do this.

the landlord or the hotel or the resort has to report you TM30 in the system within 24 hours of your arrival at the accommodation. The TM30 residence reporting has absolutely nothing to do with the 90-days reporting. However, without a completed TM30 report, more and more Immigration offices will not service you, in case you need anything from them
They just need to know where you are staying. If you stay overnight in a hotel they should lodge a TM30, when you return to your own home or rental accommodation then you or your landlord should lodge again. Doesn’t always happen.

You need to ask your local immigration office.
They either want you to do it every time you stay the night somewhere else and return
Or they want you to do it every time you return from outside the country.
TM30 has never needed to be done every 90 days. That's the TM47 90 day report.
