Morning all. Just some notes on TM30 registering address. I have just been to Phuket to do ours. All fine even though we were late as we had to wait for landlord for papers. They did say that anytime you stay anywhere else that registers you, even a night in Bangkok etc then you need to go back and reregister. Same if you leave the country even for long weekend etc. Not sure how much they enforce this but thought better share.

TLDR : Answer Summary
The TM30 and TM28 forms are essential for foreigners living in Thailand regarding address registrations. Users shared experiences indicating that TM30 must be filed by property owners to report foreign residents, especially when returning from abroad or staying in a different location like hotels (which reportedly also handle TM30 submissions). TM28 is used by foreigners to report a change of address, typically when staying overnight in another province. However, there is considerable variance in enforcement across different immigration offices, leading to confusion about when to file each form. Some expats suggest that the rules are not uniformly enforced, and it's advisable to check with local immigration offices for specific requirements.

Endless discussion without any result.. PLEASE all, do understand that every Immigration Office enforce this rule of Tm30, Tm 28 and reporting after travel inside or outside Thailand differently. What is rule in your area, can be totally different in the area next to you. The only persons who can give you all the details is the Immigration Officer at the Office in your area. Go there, get the information and act on that information. Every advice given out another Immigration district could be correct, incomplete or totally nonsens.

I cannot understand the difference between TM28 and TM30... apart from the theory in the real world they look like the same thing for me ðŸĪ”ðŸĪ”

Yes, but you do not do the TM28 when visiting hotel either. They do TM30 because thy is a kind of owner.
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
@Álvaro *********
as I said, every district have their own interpretation. I made a borderbounce a couple of weeks ago and they said houseowner MUST file a new TM30 because I left Thailand.
Álvaro **********
The hotels do the TM30, NOT THE TM28
Álvaro **********
I have updated twice my TM30. The same TM30, updated with the new date - and they update the TM6 number in the system if you came from abroad.
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
@Álvaro *********
No not when staying in the hotel. The Hotel do that for you. It is when you returning.

As long as you travel from hotell to hotell, you do not need. The Hotels do it.

No I am not confusing, I am telling about Prachin Buri. What I understood by them today, a thing like Update the TM30 does not exist. Its filing a new one by the houseowner.

That is my understanding after I talked with the officer and my wife said her.
Álvaro **********
In fact, if you should fill a TM28 each time you "change your address" that implies EVERY FARANG should fill it EVERY TIME they stay in a hotel. That's absolutely undoable.
Álvaro **********
You're confusing filing the TM30 with UPDATING the TM30...

The first file of the TM30 is a matter of the owner, right.

But you OR the owner should UPDATE the TM30 each time you come back to the same address after an overnight elsewhere.

And then there's the TM28, which for me, in the real world, looks exactly like the TM30: report each time you come back home.
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
@Álvaro *********
to med those things confirm to me that in Prachin Buri I am registered at a address and TM28 is my way to update my address, without the need for the house-owner when I come back from a travel.

Álvaro R. Royo About the TM30-

Before I moved to Thailand I sent an email to Immigrationoffice and asked about this.

"Hi,

July 30, I will arrive with my wife to stay in my wife's house in Kabin Buri.

What I understand, I (as a Swedish nationality) must be registered by you, on the address I stay.

My wife is the houseowner and is of Thai nationality.

I have found a document named TM30 on internet. Is this the correct document to fill in and register with you? It looks as it is for the houseowner, my wife. Is there a document that I must fill in too? Or is it enough with TM30?

Is it possible to do the registration on the internet somehow? Or only with visit to you?"

I received this answer:

"

Prachinburi Immigration <
*********************************
>

fre 13 juli 08:47

till mig

your houseowner have to do it by themself at Prachinburi immigration and you not fill in the form TM 30 .It for only your houseowner."

I think this is very close to what the Thailand law says, but as you know, in Thailand every immigration interpret its different.

In Prachin Buri I CANNOT as you said you did, file a TM30 by myself. Either I need the TM30 Proxy Form or the hoseowner need to do that.

Also there is no need for me to visit the immigration for the TM30, but it is very needed for the house-owner to avoid a fine.

As long as I have the receipt to attach in my passport, everything is done.
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
@Álvaro *********
As I understood this before I came to Thailand. TM30 is the house-owner responibility, you cannot be fined to not have done the TM30 report. But you can be fined for not haaving your paperwork done (you do not have the slip from the bottom part of TM30 with you or in your passport).

Once are registered with TM30 by the houseowner where you love pemanently, you use TM28 to update your own address when you have visited other districts in thailand one night or more.

Lesser paperwork

The only explanation I found on the net says "tm28

Fill out this form if you change address.

Example: If you are currently registered in you home or condo and you then stay overnight in a hotel, you will need to lodge a form with Immigration on your return.

You must do this within 24 hours otherwise you will be fined"
Álvaro **********
Peter the thing is: if I come back to the same address after a trip, I update the TM30 just by bring my passport and TM30 receipt.

But, is it an address change? Should I fill a TM28 "change of address" when I return to THE SAME address after a stay in a hotel, by example?

That is my doubt and what confuses me so much: what is a "change of address"?
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
@Álvaro *********
I need to investigate that. My wife said that I not need to file new forms from now. I do not believe that for a second. I think it's a easier form. TM30 demand copy of blue housebook and the owners id. TM28 ask only about me.
Álvaro **********
But then, when should I update each?

I mean, apart from the theory, in the real world, I have to go and update the TM30 by myself when I come back home from a trip.

When should I update the TM28? Each time I update the TM30? Or only if I change my usual address?
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
@Álvaro *********
TM30 is the houseowner/landlord notification of the aliens stay with him.

TM28 is my as a alien change of address.

TM30 ask for the houseowner name and address. TM28 ask for my name and address.
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
The update is. No, they did not want me to file a new TM30. They asked me if I need to travel in Thailand more times and I answered yes. Then she said she change my registration and instead wanted me to write the TM28, change of address.

What I understand, then I instead should use TM28 every time I change address.
āļ–āļ™āļāļĄāļĻāļĢāļĩ **********************
I called Prachin Buri to ask about this. They told me I need to file a new TM30.

We go there now and see if it was a misunderstanding because of my English. I let my wife talk to them and see if it's only need an update.

I too visited Bangkok for one night only. The hotel made a report of address, hence the need.
Richard *********
Nong Khai Immigration specifically told me it is only if you leave the Kingdom.

It’s interesting that people have different experiences with the TM 30

My immigration office is Jomtien.

I since I have lived here, I have been to hotels within Chonburi and also outside of Chonburi

Never had a problem!

I have also read about other people who have been fined for doing the same.

It seems to change day by day!!

I wish the answer was in black and white and not so much of a grey area!

Now I go to immigration just to checkðŸ˜ģ

@Daryl *******
That’s what I heard too

But other people have many different stories

I just don’t know, so I report every time

It’s crazyðŸ˜ģ
Daryl ********
I recently returned to the UK for 2 weeks. On obtaining my re-entry permit at Jomtien I asked if I needed to notify them of my return, "Not if you stay same address" was the reply.

Having read some of the comments on here about Jomtien immigration fining people for not reporting on their return, I went back to Jomtien on my return to notify them. I was again told " No need to do if stay same address".
Álvaro **********
Just for additional info about Chiang Mai, where they enforce TM30 updates as well. When I went to update after an abroad trip I asked the officer about when to update. They said "every time you stay overnight in any other province or abroad".
Álvaro **********
David new for me too the "even in a province inside Thailand" part, but that was what the officer replied to me.

I will go to Sukhotai for Loi Krathong, so after I will go to update TM30 and so I will confirm if yes or not needed inside Thailand.
Tod *********
Thanx for the update, as a rule MOST immigration offices only require you update the TM.30 when you come back from overseas and get back to your primary residence NOT when you're traveling around inside of thailand.

@Gavin *******
we were told the same thing by Phuket Immigration even thou we have 1 year rental agreement. If we want to stay 1 night in a hotel in Phuket, we need to notify address at immigration again

Morning Tod. That’s what I thought but they were 100% it did not matter and if anywhere else registers you on system you need to go back and do all forms again even if it’s same house. ðŸĪĶðŸŧ‍♂ïļ. Now how practical that is, is another questions ðŸĪ·ðŸŧ‍♂ïļ
