Is it necessary that my wife is in Thailand when I apply for a faamily extention of my visa? I would like to stay some 110 days. I asked advice at the Thai Embassy and they replied that on a non immigrant visa O spouse, I can go to immigration for a 30 day extention.We will travel together to Thailand but as she has a job, she will come back to Belgium long before me. thanks 🙏🙏

TLDR : Answer Summary
To apply for a family extension of your visa in Thailand, your wife must be present at the immigration office with you. Since the extension is based on your relationship, and as she will not be in the country when you apply, it may complicate your request. While you may be eligible for a 30-day extension based on your non-immigrant visa O spouse, the requirements can vary by immigration office.

In other words, you want an extension to stay in Thailand with a wife... who will not be in Thailand. That's how immigration will understand your request.

it is called a family extention I think. I have more family in Thailand than my wife alone, but yes, maybe thai immigration sees this different.

You can apply for a 60 day extension of stay to visit family but you need your wife to come with you to immigration as she is the reason for your extension (cant guarentee it is the same for every immigration office, but certainly required at the 2 I have used for this).

BTW you cannot get a 30 day extension off of a 90day nonO visa.

also is a 90 day nonO Visa same as TouristVisa 60 Days and one 30 days extension - right?

90 days is 90 days, BUT they are totally different visas and one you get stamped in for 90 days when you arrive (the Non-O) and the other you get stamped in for 60 days when you arrive (the tourist visa) and you need to go apply for a 30 day extension to get to 90 days of stay

hi Tod. Would it be possible to enter with exemption and once in Thailand apply for a non immigrant O? This would give me 120 days.

@Bart *******
, you would need to show proof of meeting the financial requirements, and you would need at least 15 days left on your current stamp to apply (your wife would have to be there with you too) and the application would go under consideration for 14 days before you went back to get it inked in (she doesn't need to be there for that) you just show up with your passport.
