Can you apply from any consulate world wide instead of your home countries ? NZ charges $2000 which is ridiculous , Australia is $600 , the currencies are almost the same value versus one another.

TLDR : Answer Summary
Yes, you can apply for a Thai visa at any Thai consulate worldwide, not just in your home country. Many people recommend applying in countries like Jakarta, Taiwan, Ho Chi Minh City, and Yangon, which are known for being more lenient with documentation. However, it's important to physically be in the location where you apply. Additionally, some consulates, like the one in Wellington, New Zealand, are considered to have excessively high visa fees, leading applicants to seek alternatives.

IF you are a Kiwi DO NOT <- repeat DO NOT get your visa from the thai consulate in Wellington

They have the highest price for visas to thailand in the entire world. No consulate even comes close to them. They are way out of line as far as what other thai consulates the world over are charging

Unless I'm wrong a DTV in Wellington is 2000NZD that's 1234USD (42k baht)

In S/E Asia the "go to" consulates seem to be Taipei Taiwan, HCMC Vietnam, Jakarta Indonesia & Yangon Burma.

By "go to" I mean ones that seem to not be too hard core on the documentation, and people are reporting successes in their application process for the DTV
